The Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM), also known as KSILABS, has officially announced a major milestone in its institutional development following its approval by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to operate as a Vocational Enterprise Institute (VEI) under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative.

This significant achievement marks a new chapter in the institute’s journey toward becoming a leading hub for skill acquisition, technical training, and workforce development in Nigeria.

Approval Following Successful Accreditation Exercise

The approval was granted after a comprehensive accreditation exercise conducted by NBTE on April 2, 2026. During the exercise, the institute underwent a thorough assessment of its facilities, training equipment, manpower, and overall capacity to deliver high-quality vocational education.

The evaluation process ensured that KSITM met all the required national standards for TVET delivery. The successful outcome of this exercise confirms the institution’s readiness to provide practical, competency-based training aligned with industry needs.

This recognition by NBTE is not only a validation of the institute’s efforts but also a testament to its commitment to maintaining excellence in technical education.

What the VEI Status Means

With this newly granted VEI status, KSITM is now fully authorized to offer structured vocational programmes designed to equip individuals with hands-on skills. These programmes are tailored to meet the growing demand for practical expertise in various sectors of the economy.

The TVET initiative focuses on bridging the gap between theoretical education and real-world application. By adopting this model, KSITM aims to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also job-ready, innovative, and capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.

This move is particularly important in addressing unemployment and underemployment, as it empowers individuals with skills that can lead to self-reliance, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods.

Approved Training Programmes

As part of the approval, KSITM has been authorized to offer a wide range of industry-relevant training programmes. These programmes cut across different sectors and are designed to reflect current global trends and technological advancements.

The approved trades include:

Solar PV Installation and Maintenance

Social Media Communication

Creative Media (Modern Media Production

Fashion Design and Tailoring

Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology

Networking and System Installation

Hospitality and Catering Training

Electrical Installation

Satellite and CCTV Installation and Maintenance

Welding and Fabrication

Computer Hardware Repair and Maintenance

Each of these programmes is structured to provide practical, hands-on training that prepares participants for immediate entry into the workforce or for starting their own businesses.

Impact on Youth Empowerment and Employment

This development is expected to have a far-reaching impact on youth empowerment, especially in Katsina State and beyond. By offering accessible and relevant vocational training, KSITM is creating opportunities for young people to acquire valuable skills that can transform their economic prospects.

The initiative aligns with national goals of reducing unemployment, promoting entrepreneurship, and fostering economic growth. In a country where many graduates struggle to find jobs, skill-based education offers a practical alternative that can lead to financial independence.

Through these programmes, trainees will gain not only technical skills but also critical thinking abilities, creativity, and problem-solving skills necessary to thrive in today’s competitive world.

Commitment to Quality and Continuous Growth

The management of KSITM has reaffirmed its dedication to delivering high-quality training that meets both local and international standards. The institute plans to continuously upgrade its facilities, expand its programme offerings, and adopt innovative teaching methods to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving technical education landscape.

There is also a strong commitment to aligning training with industry demands, ensuring that graduates remain relevant and competitive in the job market.

Appreciation to Stakeholders

In its official statement, the management of KSITM expressed deep appreciation to the NBTE for its confidence in the institute’s capabilities. The institution also acknowledged the vital role played by the Katsina State Government, the Governing Council, staff, and other stakeholders in achieving this milestone.

Their collective support and contributions were instrumental in making this approval a reality.

Call to Prospective Trainees and Partners

Prospective trainees, industry partners, and members of the public are encouraged to take advantage of the newly approved programmes. These training opportunities are designed to meet modern industry standards and equip participants with skills that are in high demand globally.

KSITM also welcomes collaborations with organizations and industry leaders to further enhance the quality and reach of its programmes.

Looking Ahead

As KSITM embarks on this new phase as a Vocational Enterprise Institute, the institution remains focused on its mission to promote technical education, empower individuals, and contribute to national development.

With a clear vision and strong foundation, KSITM is well-positioned to become a leading center for vocational excellence in Nigeria, shaping the future of skilled manpower and driving innovation across multiple sectors.

The institute’s journey under the TVET initiative is just beginning, and the future looks promising for both the institution and the many individuals who will benefit from its programmes.
