FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, IYIN EKITI ANNOUNCES MATRICULATION CEREMONY
The Management of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin-Ekiti, is proud to announce the formal induction of its very first cohort of scholars. This Maiden Matriculation Ceremony marks a significant milestone in the history of the institution, which was established by the Federal Government to advance Nigeria’s technological and environmental frontiers.
The ceremony will officially welcome the pioneer students admitted for the 2025/2026 Academic Session. This event is the formal “rite of passage” where students take the matriculation oath, pledging their loyalty to the university and committing to a life of academic excellence and integrity.
Ceremony Schedule and Logistics
The university has finalized the arrangements to ensure a memorable experience for the pioneer students and their families:
-
Date: Friday, 27th February 2026
-
Time: 11:00 AM Prompt
-
Venue: University Auditorium, FUTES Campus, Iyin-Ekiti
All matriculating students, parents, and invited guests are expected to be seated by 10:30 AM to allow for the formal academic procession of the Vice-Chancellor and members of the Senate.
Important Note on Terminology
It is important to clarify that while the term “Convocation” is sometimes used colloquially, in the Nigerian university system, this event is strictly a Matriculation Ceremony.
-
Matriculation: The formal induction of new students at the beginning of their studies.
-
Convocation: The graduation ceremony for final-year students who have completed their degrees.
As the pioneer set, your journey begins with this matriculation, and your convocation will occur in four to five years upon your successful graduation.
Instructions for Pioneer Students
To ensure a hitch-free ceremony, all pioneer students are advised to adhere to the following directives:
-
Academic Gowns: Matriculation gowns are mandatory for all students participating in the ceremony. These are to be collected from the respective Faculty Officers starting from Monday, 23rd February 2026.
-
Dress Code: Students are expected to be in formal corporate attire under their academic gowns. For men, this generally implies a suit or dress shirt with a tie; for women, modest corporate wear is required.
-
Registration Status: Only students who have completed their physical clearance and online course registration on the FUTES portal will be eligible to sign the matriculation register.
-
Signing of the Oath: The Matriculation Oath is a legal document. Ensure you sign and return the oath form to your Faculty Officer immediately after the ceremony to formalize your studentship records.
A Vision for the Future
As the first generation of FUTES students, you carry the responsibility of setting the academic and moral standard for the institution. The university management, led by the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, encourages all students to embrace the specialized training in Technology and Environmental Sciences that this institution offers to solve real-world Nigerian challenges.
