UNIVERSITY OF DELTA, AGBOR ANNOUNCES MAIDEN CONVOCATION CEREMONY

The Management of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, has officially reached a historic milestone with the announcement of its Maiden Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for Saturday, 21st February 2026. This landmark event represents the first formal graduation exercise since the institution’s transition to a full-fledged university, marking a significant chapter in the educational history of Delta State. In a circular issued and signed by the Registrar, Richmond Omagbemi (Esq), the university outlined mandatory procedures and academic protocols to ensure the ceremony maintains the highest standards of institutional decorum.

The grand finale of the ceremony is designed to be a display of academic tradition and administrative excellence. According to the official schedule, the proceedings will commence with a formal academic procession starting at 9:00 a.m. prompt. Participation in this procession is mandatory for all members of the University Council, the Senate, and the Congregation. To maintain the solemnity and prestige of the event, all participants are required to be fully dressed in the approved academic gowns of the University of Delta. This visual uniformity signifies the collective academic authority and achievement of the university’s governing bodies.

Logistical Arrangements for Graduating Students

To facilitate a seamless experience for the pioneering set of graduates, the Office of the Registrar has delegated specific responsibilities to Faculty Officers regarding the management of academic regalia.

  • Gown Collection: Faculty Officers are directed to visit the Central Stores on Wednesday, 19th February 2026, by 12:00 noon to collect the academic gowns assigned to their respective faculties.

  • Student Distribution: Following the central collection, students are expected to follow their departmental guidelines to secure their gowns. It is essential that students ensure they have met all financial and administrative clearances prior to this date to avoid delays.

  • Return Policy: All hired gowns must be returned in good condition within the stipulated timeframe following the ceremony to avoid late-return penalties or replacement costs.

Standards of Conduct and Disciplinary Measures

As this is the university’s maiden outing, the Management is placing a heavy emphasis on institutional reputation and the behavior of the graduating class. Faculty Officers have been specifically tasked with the direct supervision of their students to ensure orderliness during the award of degrees and prizes.

The university has issued a stern warning that any behavior—by students or guests—deemed capable of bringing the name of the institution into disrepute will not be tolerated. Any form of misconduct, including unruly celebrations or failure to follow the procession protocol, will attract stiff penalties in accordance with the University of Delta’s established rules and regulations. The institution aims to set a high standard of discipline that will serve as a blueprint for all future ceremonies.

The 2026 Convocation is more than just a graduation; it is a public validation of the university’s academic programs and its commitment to producing graduates prepared for the global market. The Management extends its warmest wishes to the entire university community for a successful and happy celebration of this inaugural success. All graduating students are encouraged to savor this moment while maintaining the discipline and excellence that the university has instilled in them throughout their course of study.
