The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) provides candidates with an SMS option to accept or reject an admission offer whenever admission is offered through the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

The SMS option provides candidates with an alternative way to respond to their admission offers, particularly for those who may have difficulty accessing the JAMB CAPS portal.

Candidates who receive an admission offer are advised to carefully consider the offer before choosing to accept or reject it.

Requirements for Accepting or Rejecting Admission via SMS

Before sending the SMS, candidates should ensure that the following requirements are met:

  • The phone number must be the phone number linked to the candidate’s JAMB profile.
  • The phone must be active and have sufficient airtime.
  • The candidate must have received an admission offer before attempting to accept or reject it.
  • The candidate’s JAMB Registration Number must be entered correctly.

How to Accept JAMB Admission via SMS

To accept an admission offer through SMS, candidates should follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the SMS application on the phone number linked to your JAMB profile.

Step 2: Type your JAMB Registration Number, followed by a space.

Step 3: Type ACCEPT in uppercase letters.

Step 4: Send the message to 55019.

SMS Format

JAMB Registration Number ACCEPT

Example:

202550006742TY ACCEPT

Candidates should carefully check their JAMB Registration Number before sending the message to avoid errors.

How to Reject JAMB Admission via SMS

Candidates who decide not to accept an admission offer can also reject it through SMS.

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the SMS application on the phone number linked to your JAMB profile.

Step 2: Enter your JAMB Registration Number, followed by a space.

Step 3: Type REJECT in uppercase letters.

Step 4: Send the message to 55019.

SMS Format

JAMB Registration Number REJECT

Example:

202556857673GH REJECT

Candidates should understand the implications of rejecting an admission offer before sending the SMS.

What Happens After Accepting Admission?

After accepting an admission offer, candidates are advised to continue monitoring their JAMB CAPS portal and the admission portal of the institution that offered them admission.

Candidates should also proceed with other required admission processes, which may include:

  • Payment of the institution’s acceptance fee.
  • Medical screening.
  • Admission clearance.
  • Registration.
  • Payment of other prescribed school fees.
  • Printing of the official JAMB Admission Letter.

Candidates should not assume that accepting admission on JAMB CAPS automatically completes all the admission requirements of their institution.

What If You No Longer Have Access to Your JAMB Phone Number?

Candidates who no longer have access to the phone number linked to their JAMB profile may experience difficulty using the SMS option.

Such candidates are advised to visit the nearest JAMB-accredited CBT centre for assistance with their admission-related concerns.

Candidates should also avoid giving their JAMB login details or personal information to unauthorised individuals.

Always Check JAMB CAPS

Even when using the SMS option, candidates are advised to regularly monitor their JAMB CAPS portal.

The CAPS portal remains important for checking admission status and following the admission process.

Candidates should confirm that their admission status has been properly updated and carefully follow any further instructions provided by JAMB or their institution.

Important Reminder for JAMB Candidates

  • Candidates should be extremely careful when choosing between ACCEPT and REJECT.
  • Before rejecting an admission offer, ensure that you fully understand the consequences of your decision. Likewise, after accepting an admission offer, continue with the necessary institutional admission procedures.
  • Candidates should also keep evidence of relevant SMS notifications and admission documents for future reference.

The SMS option provides JAMB candidates with an additional means of responding to admission offers received through the admission process.

To accept an offer, candidates should send their JAMB Registration Number followed by ACCEPT to 55019. To reject an offer, they should send their JAMB Registration Number followed by REJECT to the same number.

Candidates should use the phone number linked to their JAMB profile and ensure that the information entered is accurate before sending the SMS.

Most importantly, candidates should regularly check their JAMB CAPS portal and follow the official admission instructions provided by JAMB and their respective institutions.
