Fountain University Admission General Requirements.

The Division wishes to intimate all students that the said Release did not emanate from the Division of Student Affairs of this University. As far as we know, this Division has not issued any Release to invite the students to the Obafemi Awolowo University Campus as of now.

All students are therefore enjoined to disregard the purported Release and continue to stay in their respective homes until further notice.

All Hall Wardens should please note that students are not allowed to gain entrance into the Halls of Residence for any reason until the University reopens officially for academic activities.

Sequel to an article which was published in my name on an online news platform between mid-February and early March 2020, titled “LASU DYSTOPIA: THE TRAVAILS OF A.O AFFLUENCE, A 500 LEVEL LASU LAW STUDENT,” I hereby make a retraction to parts of that publication, which in hindsight must have impugn the reputation, good standing and the integrity of the ebullient Vice Chancellor of LAGOS STATE UNIVERSITY, Prof. Olanrewaju Adigun Fagbohun (SAN).
Some of the disparaging words were suggestions received from allies, empathizers and sympathizers in the heat of the confusion and dejection that followed my sudden expulsion, which had ready acceptance from a confused and disgruntled mind at the time and I unfortunately accepted without proper rationalisation.

With special reference to that part of the article which reads in part …..in actual fact my major offences are; during the last gubernatorial election in the State, I and some of my colleagues in school led a campaign for Sanwoolu as against his will (Ambode)… or words to that effect.

This impulsive reaction was triggered by my believe that I’m being victimised unjustly due to the lack of proper investigation of the circumstances that resulted in my unprecedented expulsion in the bid to terminate my dream and end my quest to earn a degree in law from the prestigious LASU law faculty on the allegations of an offence I clearly never committed and am totally innocent of.

I regret to state that I have now realised that the allegations contained in my article as it concerns the progressive minded Vice-Chancellor are spurious. I regret any damage, discomfort or annoyance that the article or any part of it must have caused the V.C Prof Olanrewaju Adigun Fagboun and humbly plead for his pardon.
I pray that he re-ignite the light of my future that has been flickered in the past few months.

The truth is that Prof. Fagboun is someone I deeply admire and hold in high esteem because of his intelligence, youthfulness, vivasciousness, outstanding leadership, sterling qualities, and outstanding performance and achievements as Vice Chancellor of LASU.

I also use this avenue to urge the general public to kindly disregard any part of the article that is prejudicial to the public image of the V.C and any member of LASU management.

The Federal Government is to meet with the State Commissioners for Education, National Association of Private School Proprietors and other critical stakeholders, on 30th July 2020, to evaluate the level of preparedness and possibility of reopening schools.

Minister of State for Education, Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, made this known during the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 news briefing in Abuja.

The meeting would discuss the level of compliance with the guidelines for reopening of schools earlier released by the Federal Ministry of Education.

He also disclosed that government was working assiduously towards ensuring that the final year students participate in the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WAEC) which was scheduled to hold from 4th August to 5th September 2020.

Nwajiuba said WAEC has insisted on going ahead with the examination in other four West African countries and that Nigeria would not be left, saying the option of November General Certificate in Examination (GCE) for Nigeria to join earlier being put on the table would not be ideal for the country.

He said the discussion was still on the possibility of shifting Nigerian languages, which are subjects scheduled to hold first before other general papers taken by candidates from all the five West African countries.

He said: “WAEC was unable to wholesomely move the exams but we have also worked out negotiated timeline with WAEC such that what we call peculiar Nigerian subjects which in the language of WAEC are subjects that are only held in Nigeria-Igbo Language, Hausa Language, and Yoruba Language.

“Ghanaians have their own but they are all in the first part of the timetable. We will now work out a domestication module that will take our peculiar subjects behind after we have done generals. This will buy us the time we need for all of us to be able to be at par with the rest of West Africa for the examinations to be written at the same time,” he said.

Nwajiuba noted further that the unanimity with which WAEC has always worked remains very important to the country, saying Nigeria would not move away from it.

He said the option was to go to November to take the GCE external exams, saying Nigeria is carefully studying that if in the event that everything “fails we may go to that but we are working assiduously to keep with the time-frame, saying the key factor of safety of the children was assured. ”

He said the Federal Government was not against any plans by state governments to reopen schools provided there is compliance with guidelines already made available to them

He said: “Education is a concurrent matter on our legislative list. States are free to make those kinds of provisions with the guidance that the Presidential Task Force has provided.”

The Minister added that the checklist provided in the guidelines are the requirement needed to put in place before the schools are reopened.

“We have given the cut-off date as 29th of July to expect all the responses so that we can know who needs help. If your problem is that you already get the bucket and a tap but you don’t know how to insert the tap to the bucket so that it turns into running water, we need to know because such a simple step may be important,” he said.

Following the closure of schools on March 20, 2020 in Ondo State due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state government is set to reopen for academic activities.

With the pandemic still on rampage, the State government released guidelines, as well conditions for the reopening of schools across the State.

The guidelines were announced by the state’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology during a meeting with the executives of All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, held at Fiwasaye Girls’ Grammar School, Akure.

According to the Commissioner for the Ministry, Femi Agagu, the meeting was called with the view of involving stakeholders within the education sector in the drive to open schools in Ondo State.

Agagu disclosed that the first on the guidelines was the sensitization meeting with principals of public secondary schools across the state which would be followed with private schools and the Parent Teachers Association (PTA).

The Commissioner, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Akin Asaniyan stated that the guidelines were to ensure students’ safety as government prepares to bring those in graduating classes back to school.

He maintained that assemblies, sporting activities, as well as other events that could negate social distancing would be suspended.

According to him, under the new arrangements, schools will resume at 8am and close by 2pm from Mondays to Fridays and the class sitting arrangement will also be scattered in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

The principals were also urged to adhere to the principles of social distancing, proper ventilation in the classrooms, as well as constant washing of hands, proper waste management, among others.

The quick action of the Lagos State University (LASU) Students’ Union went a long way to save a student of the university, Esther Kuti, from losing her limbs in an accident early this month.

Students’ Union (SU) leaders are usually in the news for ALUTA issues. They are more likely to be seen agitating for one thing or the other that may result to protests which, sometimes, turn violent leading to destruction of property, school closures, arrests, injuries or death.

However SU also do good deeds and this story is about a good deed by the Students’ Union of the Lagos State University (LASU).

Thanks to the quick action of the LASU Students’ Union (LASUSU) Executive, Esther Ibukunoluwa Kuti, a student of the university, can think of walking again.

The 300-Level English Education student will be forever grateful to the SU leaders for coming through for her after she got hit by a vehicle: it raised funds for her surgery in three days.
The unfortunate incident happened on July 6. When Esther left her home to her sister’s place in Oyingbo in the heart of Lagos Mainland Local Government, little did she know it would not be a normal journey.

Her recollection of the incident is hazy. When CampusLife asked about it, she said: “I don’t want to recall it. Anytime I try to, I get a headache so I do not want to think about it.”
However, she recalled enough to say that she stopped over around Abiola Gardens in Alausa, Ikeja, to drop some items for someone then got hit by a Lexus Jeep while trying to cross the express road to continue her journey.

She could not remember how she was rescued but learnt she was taken from the accident scene to the Accident and Emergency Trauma Centre at Toll Gate before being referred to the GeneraI Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island.

The accident affected Esther’s legs. She had serious injuries on her left leg, but it was not as bad as her right leg which needed to be operated upon.
With a pensioner father taking care of her and her siblings, the N500,000 needed for the surgery was not readily available. Esther said her roommate’s cry for help on her behalf brought the situation to light and caught the attention of LASUSU leaders.

“I didn’t know how the news spread; I just saw calls coming in. My roommate posted the pictures first,” she said.
Speaking on LASUSU’s role, its Public Relations Officer, Zeenab Adams, said it took the union three days to raise over N300,000 for Esther’s surgery once they learnt of her predicament.

She said they took their fundraising campaign to various social media platforms like WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram and got responses from members of the university community as well as outsiders.

The 300-Level Law student said: “On July 7, it came to my notice that Esther Kuti was involved in a car accident.

So, immediately I was aware, I placed a call to her to ask her some questions which she answered; and she told me they needed N300,000 for the leg surgery.
But you know after the N300,000, they will need more funds so I called out for N500,000 fundraiser to assist her. To raise the money, we made a lot of graphics and made use of all our social media platforms.

“I started sending messages to people I know in the capacity to assist her, including some of the members of LASU management team; and they assisted.

Some donated N500, some N1,000 and now we are happy the money was complete. She has done the surgery and she is back hale and hearty. She said the leg is fine now but she can’t walk yet.”
Adams said she did not know Kuti before her accident but that the SU Exco acted because she was a student of the university and would do so for other students.

“Kuti and I do not have any relationship. If students reach out to us to assist them in this regard we will do that. Right now, we have a mother to one of our students; she has kidney disease. We are trying to source money for her also,” she said.

LASUSU President Abdulbasit Ashade said the backing of the Students’ Union helped Esther get the funds she needed on time.

He said: “When I got the information from the PRO that one of our students had an accident and she was in a critical condition.

I immediately organised a virtual meeting with my executive members where we all deliberated on the way forward to assist Esther.

As we all know, the student union government is saddled with the responsibility to protect and promote the interest of students both on an off campus, so it is our duty to stand up whenever one of our students is in need of any assistance we can render.
“So, the issue of Esther is not the first we will be treating. We have had lots of issues like that because we believe an injury to one is an injury to all.

And secondly we know that if Esther on her own should solicit for funds from people they will barely give her the needed attention, but using the name and image of the Students Union, everyone will definitely want to reckon with the union or anything that has to do with student unionism.”
When she had to go in for the surgery, Esther said she had no fears about the outcome. She credited that to the massive support of family and friends.
“Actually, I was rest assured. I had a lot of people giving me confidence, most especially my boyfriend, roomie and few others.

I wanted so badly to live for them despite the pains. After the surgery, I was very much relieved of my pains, I could lift up my leg unlike before the surgery,” she said.

Now that the surgery is behind her, Esther is looking forward to getting back to shape. She, however, needs to give herself time to heal.
“I can move my leg, but I cannot walk yet. The doctors said I should not stress it,” she said.

Asked what would have happened if LASU SU had not come to her rescue, she said “Ahh! May be I could have survived by God’s grace alone”
Praising LASUSU for coming to Esther’s aid, the Coordinator, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, LASU, Mr. Ademola Adekoya, said they deserved commendation.

“The initiative is by the students. It is their way of contributing to the society; rendering help to their own. It is laudable. If they can do this at this level, they will do even more when they get to the bigger society,” he said.

POST-UTME SCREENING FOR THE 2020/2021 SESSION ADMISSION EXERCISE

1. Candidates should visit the School’s website http://www.akwaibompoly.edu.ng, click online Application, then generate an invoice with the following details: i. Phone number and ii. Name
2. Candidates should go to any Commercial Bank in Nigeria with their invoice(RRR Number) to purchase an electronic PIN and make payment of N8,000 (EIGHT THOUSAND NAIRA) and obtain a PIN. (INCLUSIVE OF BANK AND OTHER CHARGES).
3. Application should therefore be completed by visiting http://www.akwaibompoly.edu.ng with the obtained pin to complete the application with the following steps:
Highlight “Admissions” and select “Application Forms” then select your choice of programme and insert the obtained PIN (Confirmation Order) in the appropriate form to complete the application.
-Attach 1 year Industrial Attachment Letter.
-Official ND Transcript to be sent to the Registrar.

APTITUDE TEST: There shall be no physical Aptitude Testing. The mode of Aptitude Test shall be based on a dedicated calibrated format.
