The Management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has formally ratified the schedule for its 30th Matriculation Ceremony, marking the official induction of newly admitted students for the 2026_1 Academic Semester. This statutory event is a mandatory rite of passage for all freshers across the university’s expansive network of study centres.

In alignment with the institution’s digital-first approach to open and distance learning, the ceremony will be conducted via a centralized virtual platform, ensuring regional inclusivity for all matriculating students nationwide.

CEREMONY LOGISTICS AND VIRTUAL INTEGRATION

The University Senate has approved the following timeline for the matriculation proceedings:

  • Date: Wednesday, 8th April, 2026.

  • Venue: Virtual (All Study Centres).

  • Access Protocol: A dedicated Weblink and Official Time for the broadcast will be forwarded to all Study Centre Directors in due course for dissemination to the students.

All matriculating students are expected to be physically present at their respective Study Centres or logged in via the provided link to participate in the formal oath-taking process.

MANDATORY ORIENTATION PROGRAMME

To ensure that all new students are properly integrated into the university’s unique learning management system (LMS), Study Centre Directors have been directed to host a localized orientation:

  • Orientation Date: Tuesday, 7th April, 2026.

  • Objective: To provide critical guidance on course registration, TMA (Tutor-Marked Assignments) submission, examination protocols, and the use of the iLearn portal.

ADMINISTRATIVE DIRECTIVE FOR STUDY CENTRE DIRECTORS

The university management enjoins all Study Centre Directors to ensure the following for a seamless ceremony:

  1. Technical Readiness: Ensure that center-wide internet facilities and screening equipment are functional for the virtual broadcast on Wednesday.

  2. Matriculation Gowns: Facilitate the orderly distribution and collection of academic regalia to students who have completed their fee payments.

  3. Compliance: Ensure that all matriculating students sign the Matriculation Register immediately following the virtual oath-taking, as this is the final step in securing their student status.

CONCLUSION: WELCOMING THE 2026_1 COHORT

The 30th Matriculation Ceremony represents a significant milestone in the academic journey of our new scholars. The National Open University of Nigeria remains committed to providing “Work and Learn” opportunities through flexible, high-quality education.
