This is to notify the general public that following the approval of the National Universities Commission; AE-FUNAI shall commence LAW Programme in the 2019/2020 Academic Session

Consequently, interested candidates are invited to apply for the P-UTME screening scheduled to hold on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th February, 2020.

Eligibility: Candidates must have sat for the 2019/2020 JAMB UTME and must have scored 180 and above in the UTME.

Registration: Registration for the P-UTME shall commence on Tuesday, 28th January, 2020 and close on Monday 3rd February, 2020. There shall be no extension of date.

Venue: Venue for the screening test is the University C.B.T. Centre, located at Zone A in the Campus.

The date and time of test for each registered candidate shall be communicated through the registration slip which would be printed by the candidate through the University portal.

Applicants are strongly advised to effect change of Institution to AEFUNAI on JAMB CAPS latest 31st January, 2020. Only candidates uploaded to the University by JAMB shall be admitted into the screening venue.

During registration, candidates are advised to use GSM numbers that are easily accessible to them. This is important for fast and easy communication.

Duration

Postgraduate Diploma Degree Programmes are open to both full-time and part- time students.

The Postgraduate Diploma Programme takes a minimum of one year (two Semesters) and a maximum of two years (four Semesters) for full time candidates, and a minimum of two years (four Semesters) and a maximum of three years (six Semesters) for Sandwich students.

All Master’s degree programmes take a minimum of a year and half (three Semesters) and a maximum of three years (Six Semesters) for full-time candidates, and a minimum of two years (four Semesters) and a maximum of four years (eight Semesters) for Sandwich candidates. The Doctor of Philosophy degree programme takes a minimum of three years (six semesters) and a maximum of five years (ten semesters) for full-time candidates, and a minimum of four years (eight Semesters) and maximum of six years (twelve Semesters) for M.Sc & Ph.D Sandwich candidates.

In addition to the admission requirements, every candidate in regular employment must submit with his/her application, a formal letter of release for Postgraduate Studies issued by his/her employer.

Furthermore, all applicants who are not graduates of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba – Akoko (AAUA), must request their former Universities or Institutions to forward directly to the Secretary, Postgraduate School, the academic transcripts of their first degrees or Master’s degree, with respect to applicants for Master’s and Doctoral Degrees respectively.

Note: Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba – Akoko shall offer admission to any interested candidate(s) within the range of 55% – 59.9% at the Master’s level for the M.Phil/Ph.D Programmes where available.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Monday has disclosed in a statement that it has secured the conviction of four persons for selling the e-PIN for the 2020 unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME) above N4, 700

It was gathered, that one of the persons, who was said to be a pastor Mr. Ujaku Emem Samuel, his wife, Mrs. Peace and two other persons; Mr. Opulani Sunupe and Mr. Umar Musa Sa’adu, were convicted on Monday by a Magistrate Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

According to the statement by JAMB’s Head of Information, the four persons pleaded guilty to the offence and were sentenced to three years in prison each.

The Federal Government had pegged the sale of 2020,UTME/DE application documents at N3, 500, reading text for N500 and N700 for computer based test centres (CBT) totalling N4, 700.

The statement reads: “No fewer than four persons who are agents of accredited sale outlets arrested by officers of NSCDC, Nasarawa State Command for selling the ongoing 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) application documents above the prescribed price of N4000 have been sentenced to three years in prison each.

“Before the commencement of the sale of 2020,UTME/DE application documents on 13th January 2020 the sale outlets and their agents were adequately briefed by the Board on the cost and procedures for vending the ePINs. The price of the ePINS was fixed at N3500 while that of the Reading Text was N500 totalling N4000.

“A commission of N210 from the N3500 due to the Board is given to the sale outlets as a commission on each pin sold to motivate them as well as dissuade them from exploiting candidates.

“It would be recalled that the Federal Government, in a bid to lessen the burden on parents, had directed that the UTME application documents be sold at N3500 down from N5000 charged earlier.

“Therefore, it is rather unfortunate that in spite of all the warnings and appeals as well as the offer of a fat commission by the Board, some sale agents still deemed it fit to test the resolve of the Board and the Federal Government by doing the contrary.

“The Board also wish to inform the general public that it welcomes credible and actionable reports of persons or centres exploiting candidates by selling above the regulated price.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has reportedly mobilized for a nationwide strike over the federal government’s refusal to negotiate its enrolment on the Integrated Payment and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

President Muhammadu Buhari had issued a directive over IPPIS to manage the payment of the salaries of all federal government workers while mandating that anyone not registered on the platform will not be paid.

ASUU had rejected the new system, accusing the federal government of designing it to suppress the masses in the guise of fighting corruption.

The union had also threatened strike which was later suspended pending further meetings with the government.

According to This Day, ASUU is set for a showdown with the federal government over the issue, having directed its branches to shun the enrolment into the scheme, an exercise earlier slated to commence nationwide on Monday among federal universities.

Following a protracted meeting which held over the weekend, Jamilu Shehu, ASUU’s Sokoto zonal coordinator, said the union would “definitely” go on strike should the federal government execute its threat to suspend their salaries for refusing to enrol.

“ASUU is determined to oppose any policy that is aimed at thwarting the educational advancement of the country. If the government insists on stopping the salaries of the university staff for not joining IPPIS, the union’s policy of No Pay No Work will definitely be implemented,” he was quoted to have said.

John Edor, ASUU chairman at the University of Calabar, said the union had directed its members to boycott the enrolment rather than get “forcibly migrated into the IPPIS without smoothing the rough edges of that system.”

“We have said that we have peculiar concepts, we have peculiar practices in the universities that are not congenial with the modus operandi of IPPIS so the university should be exempted from using IPPIS for its payment,” he was quoted to have said.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Idris, the accountant-general of the federation (AGF), had previously described ASUU’s opposition to the compulsory enrollment of all federal government staff to the IPPIS as an “open endorsement of corruption”.

According to him, the government remains unwavering on the issue and the deadline given to all ministries, departments, and agencies to enroll in the platform as “there is nowhere employees dictate to employers as to how he or she should be paid.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has disclosed that about 700,000 candidates have so far been registered for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) nationwide in two weeks.

This was made known by the Board’s Head, Media, and Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in an interview with newsmen.

According to him, the exercise has been hitch-free, with the impressive turnout from the first day at the various accredited Computer Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide.

He stated that there are 21 days left to go for in this year’s registration exercise and called on all prospective candidates who wish to register for 2020, the UTME and Direct Entry, to seize the opportunity and register, as there will be no extension.

Benjamin also noted that the Board had blacklisted 41 centres out of the 692 centres used, over issues such as registration cyber fraud, extortion and technical deficiency

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has disowned the newly elected officers of ASUU-LASU branch insisting the Dr. Oyewunmi led exco remains the recognise body on campus.

ASUU National President, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi in a strong-worded letter to LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olarenwaju Fagbohun, he described the new ASUU-LASU exco as illegal and unknown to ASUU.

The letter dated January 27 and titled: ‘Re-Election of new ASUU-LASU branch executives’ said the attention of the national body has been drawn to the purported election of a new branch executive committee of ASUU-LASU.

His words: ”Our union states unequivocally that the executive committee known to the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU is the Dr. Isaac Oyewunmi-led executive, whose election was supervised by a representative of the national body and approved by ASUU NEC.

The vice-chancellor may wish to note that in line with the tradition of our union until the cases of the dismissal of the five members of executives of ASUU-LASU is determined by a court of competent jurisdiction, they remain the recognised executives of ASUU-LASU. This situation shall subset until NEC approves that election should hold in the branch.”

ASUU national advised the VC and the university administration against giving recognition to the illegal group by dealing with them as officials of ASUU-LASU branch, stating ”they do not represent ASUU national and therefore cannot act on its behalf.”

The elected chairman of ASUU-LASU, Dr. Adeolu Bakare said the new exco is not aware of any letter from the national body and refused to react to the insinuations by the Dr. Oyewunmi-led that LASU management is behind their emergence.

Dr. Bakare told Daily Sun that the preoccupation of the new exco is to move ASUU-LASU forward and reconcile with colleagues that were aggrieved with the union, adding ”we can work together to promote the union and the university.”

According to him, for one to be a member of ASUU, one must be academic staff engaged in LASU while on check-off dues, Bakare said it is the prerogative of congress and that the exco can only act based on the directive of congress.

The new union last week sacked the Dr. Oyewunmi-led exco of ASUU-LASU branch and appointed a five-member caretaker committee to run the affairs of the union . The decision was taken at the congress held at old Sociology building.

The caretaker committee which gave reasons for their action said the tenure of the Dr. Oyewunmi-led exco, including Dr. Tony Dansu, Dr. Oyekan, Dr. Aboderin, and Dr. Suenu expired in February 2018, adding ”unfortunately, all of them are no longer in the service of LASU.”

”This means in effect that since 2018 we have had no functioning ASUU-LASU exco, as a result of which no progress at all has been made in regard to the corporate welfare of members.

The Dr. Oyewunmi-led exco in a letter to the VC said the call for ‘congress of ASUU-LASU’ by non-exco members is illegal and violates numerous rules of the union, noting ”there are strong reports that the idea has the backing of the university administration.”

The illegal ‘congress’ in the name of ASUU-LASU is capable of generating avoidable crises if not nipped in the bud. It is our hope that the university administration will call these persons to order in the interest of peace and order within the university.”

Barely two years after expiration of tenure of last set of leaders and various controversies leading to termination of appointment by the university of many of them including the chairman- Dr Isaac Oyewunmi; Vice-chairman, Dr Adebowale Adeyemi-Suenu and the Secretary, Dr Anthony Dansu, among others, the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have elected a set of new leaders.

They are Dr Adeolu Bakare from the Department of Economics as Chairman; Dr Babafemi Babatope as Vice Chairman; Dr Sylvester Idowu as Secretary and Dr S.A. Adebanjo as Assistant Secretary; Dr S.O Olabode as Treasurer; Dr S.A. Oladosu as Investment Officer; Dr Adeola Ajibade as Internal Auditor and Dr Ayodele Awotundun as Financial Secretary

This was contained in a statement signed by the new chairman and the secretary and made available to newsmen on Monday’s night.

According to them, the new officers were elected last Friday at a congress convened by a four-man caretaker committee of the union, headed by Dr Ishak Lakin and have since assumed duties that would last three years.

They said it was the vice-chairman of the committee, Dr A.O Adekoya from the Department of Medicine at LASUCOM that conducted the affairs of the congress, adding that by the development, both the caretaker committee and immediate past executive members of the union had been dissolved.

The duo also noted that the congress tasked the new exco to be sincere, transparent, steadfast and committed to the ideals of the union notwithstanding challenges that may come their way.

“We were specifically asked to facilitate the bringing together as indivisible group of all ASUU members, the payment of Earned Academic Allowance, the 20 per cent increment of basic salary of members based on the new minimum wage, the restoration of union’s check-off dues; construction of new ASUU secretariat, good welfare package and foster of industrial harmony and to always carry along all campuses of LASU in the union activities,” they said in the statement.

While promising to use their new roles to lift the union and LASU to a greater height, they, however, solicited cooperation and support of all members of the union in the university.
