Ogun state college of health Technology, in Ilese Ijebu, Ogun State, has announced the expulsion of 21 students from the institution,Campusnewsinfo News reports.

The college of Health technology also placed 3 others on indefinite suspension, according to a statement signed by the institution’s public relations officer, Ayodele Alaga.

The statement, published on January 30th on the school’s bulletin, contained the names, department and matriculation numbers of the expelled and suspended students.

Although no reason was given for the action, in the bulletin, according to the report from students disciplinary committee at its emergency meeting has directed that the following underlisted students be expelled/suspended from the college as their continued stay in the college is inimical to the wellbeing of the students populace.

Following allegation of sexual harassment of a female student levelled against the former Head of Department Civil Engineering, the Kaduna Polytechnic Management has terminated the appointment of Engineer Danjuma Alhassan. The termination of the lecturer’s appointment was approved by the Governing Council of the Polytechnic during its 91st regular meeting held on 30th January, 2020.

The decision of the council was contained in a letter issued on 31 January, 2020 which signed by Samuel Y. Obochi, Deputy Registrar, Information & Protocol For the Registrar.

A 200-level student of the University of Calabar, identified as Uzoagba from the department of Physics, has been suspended by the management of the institution for smoking weed (marijuana) on campus.
He was caught smoking in Hall 4 of the institution’s Male Hostel.

The University of Calabar has sacked five members of the non-academic staff and demoted 3 others for engaging in various fraudulent acts.

This is coming barely 24 hours after three undergraduates were suspended by the institution’s authorities for threatening their lecturers and allegedly smoking hard substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The affected staff include Mr. Valentine Eworo and Ms Theodora Agama both of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry, Mr. Samuel Philip Bassey of the dean’s office, Faculty of Arts, Mr. Egbala Bassey of the Vice Chancellor’s office and Mrs. Roseline Etim Eyo of the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies.

The decision to terminate their appointments and demotion was arrived at the Governing Council’s 157th meeting in which it unanimously adopted the report of the disciplinary committee that looked into tie matter, describing the staffs act as “gross misconduct”.

The sack and demotion were conveyed in separate letters signed by the registrar of the institution, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, and dated January 23, 2020.

According to the letter, the sack and demotion takes effect from December 13, 2019, while that of Mrs. Roseline takes effect from May 6, 2019.

Council, however, commended Prof. Ikana Uwah and Mr. Francis Akpan of the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry for the role they played in promptly reporting sharp practices perpetrated by some members of staff in the department.

The council expressed gratitude to the duo for acting responsibly and in the overall interest of the university.

While Mr. Valentine Eworo and Ms Theodora Agama were relieved of their appointments for allegedly altering examination grades and results of Organic Chemistry II, General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II courses for some students of the department, Mr. Samuel Philip Bassey of the dean’s office, Faculty of Arts, was also sacked for defrauding the university by cloning the signatures of the immediate past and present vice-chancellors, on a purported ‘’authorization to travel form’’ which enabled him obtain funds from the university for conference attendance.

Similarly, Mr. Egbala Bassey of the vice-chancellor’s office was also sacked for his alleged involvement in acts of financial misconduct and employment racketeering.

He was said to have collected monies from some persons with the intention of facilitating and securing employment into the university.

Mrs. Roseline Etim Eyo of the Department of Religious and Cultural Studies was also dismissed for misconduct.

It sounds strange but turned out to be true that a graduate of a university who is a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Calabar, Cross River State, was said to have been impregnated by a teenager, a junior Secondary School Student Class 2 (JSS2) in a school where she was posted for service. Ironically, while some concerned persons were said to have attempted disputing the incident, the Corp member was said to have confirmed her regular sex ordeal with the teenager, a JSS 2 student, which led to her becoming pregnant for the boy.

Students of the secondary school (yet to be disclosed) were, however, said to be notorious beyond control.

The Corps member was said to have been suspended from the service for ethical breaches; she has also been reported to the NYSC Secretariat, Abuja, for detailed investigation and discipline. The student was also said to have been expelled from the school.

The identities of the NYSC member and the JSS 2 student are being withheld.

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has handed over 38 operators of various Computer Based Test (CBT) centres drawn from the six geopolitical zones to law enforcement officers for alleged cybercrime using the Virtual Private Network (VPN).

The operators were accused of extending the VPN to illegal outposts to register some candidates for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and those seeking admission through Direct Entry (DE).

This implies that the fate of all 2020 UTME/DE candidates who knowingly or ignorantly registered at the illegal registration centres is presently unknown as there’s no clear indication if they would be allowed to sit for this year’s examinations or other arrangements would be put in place to capture them.

According to the JAMB Boss, an average parent does not want the child to queue even for 10 minutes. They will prefer that they will go and pay this person extra money and they will claim to have done it for them not knowing the incalculable damage that they are doing to their own children.

“Even if we have destroyed our own generation, let the incoming generations have the opportunity of building a better tomorrow for us and that’s our position.” He advised.

Oloyede warned all owners and operators of JAMB approved CBT centres to strictly adhere to the laid down rules and regulations in registering candidates. He added that JAMB was better equipped to monitor and track all illegality surrounding its activities in any part of the country

Justice Patricia Ajoku of a Federal High Court in Ibadan, on Friday, sentenced an undergraduate at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Orimolade, to four months imprisonment for defrauding an American man of 150 dollars.Ajoku held that the court sentenced Orimolade, based on the evidence before her and the plea bargain agreement he had with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.“I have considered the plea bargain agreement entered into by the convict as well as the provisions of Section 270 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 in this judgment.

“I also consider the fact that Orimolade is a very young person, preparing for his final exams at OAU and that he had shown great remorse.“However, to serve as a warning to others intending to engage in cybercrime, Orimolade is sentenced to four months in prison and the sentence starts from the date he was first arrested and detained.“All the exhibits found in his possession are hereby, forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria,” Ajoku said

The defence counsel, Mr Austin Fadugba, had before the judgment prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing his client.Earlier, counsel to the EFCC Ibadan zonal office, Mr Babatunde Sonoiki, had told the court that the convict was facing a count amended charge bordering on impersonation.Sonoiki added that the convict committed the crime on September 28, 2019 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

According to the prosecutor, Orimolade disguised as a US citizen to one American man, Nelisa Snell, that he was deeply in love with him through the Internet.

“Snell, therefore, sent Orimolade 150 dollars, believing that he had found a lover,” Sonoiki said.The offence, he said, contravened Section 22(A) of the cybercrime law of the Federation 2006.
