Gregory University, Uturu (GUU) is set to host its 14th Matriculation Ceremony, a landmark event that officially integrates newly admitted students into the university’s academic and moral fabric. Scheduled for Saturday, 28th February 2026, this ceremony is more than a tradition; it is a formal induction where fresh students swear the matriculation oath, pledging their loyalty to the institution’s rules and their commitment to “Knowledge for Service.”

This event represents a significant milestone for students, parents, and the university leadership, marking the transition of candidates into recognized members of the GUU scholarly community.

Ceremony Details and Venue

The university has prepared a grand setting for this academic rite of passage, ensuring all safety and ceremonial protocols are observed.

  • Date: Saturday, 28th February 2026

  • Time: 11:00 a.m. Prompt

  • Venue: Goodluck Jonathan Auditorium, Gregory University, Uturu

Host and Distinguished Guests

The ceremony is conducted under the highest institutional authority, featuring prominent figures from both the university and the Abia State government.

  • Chief Host: Chief Gregory Okechukwu Ibe, the Chancellor and Founder of Gregory University.

  • Host: Professor Cele U. Njoku, the Vice-Chancellor.

  • Special Guest of Honour: Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.

The presence of the Speaker emphasizes the university’s strong ties with the state leadership and the importance of educational development in the region.

Administrative Coordination

To ensure a seamless event, a dedicated planning committee is managing the logistics. Professor Uwaoma Kalu Uche, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), serves as the Chairman of the Matriculation Planning Committee. He is working alongside the University Registrar, Maliki A. Vincent, to coordinate the academic procession, student registration, and guest seating.

Essential Guidelines for Matriculants

For students to be officially recognized during the ceremony, the following administrative steps are required:

  • Academic Regalia: Students must collect their matriculation gowns and hoods from their respective Faculty Officers. These are usually issued upon the presentation of school fee payment receipts.

  • Punctuality: Matriculants are expected to be seated by 10:30 a.m. to allow for the formal entry of the Chancellor’s procession.

  • Signing the Register: The ceremony is finalized when students sign the Matriculation Register, a document that serves as the legal proof of their enrollment in the university.

Invitation to the Public

The university extends a warm invitation to parents, guardians, and the general public to witness this occasion. It is a day of celebration, reflecting the collective efforts of the students and their support systems in reaching this academic threshold.
