UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN (UNILORIN) ANNOUNCES 41ST CONVOCATION CEREMONIES
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has announced the programme of activities for its 41st Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled to hold from Friday, October 16 to Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the university’s Main Campus in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The announcement was contained in an official information circular signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, M.A. Alfanla.
The 41st Convocation will feature the conferment of First and Higher Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates, as well as the presentation of prizes to deserving graduands.
UNILORIN 41ST CONVOCATION PROGRAMME OF EVENTS
The activities will begin on Friday, October 16, 2026, with a Special Juma’at Service at the University of Ilorin Central Mosque by 1:30 p.m.
An Interdenominational Service will follow on Sunday, October 18, at the Chapel of the Light by 9:00 a.m.
On Monday, October 19, the Vice-Chancellor’s Press Briefing and Media Chat will take place at the University Auditorium by 10:00 a.m. A rehearsal on logistics involving principal officers and other stakeholders will follow at 3:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, October 20, the university will stage its convocation play, The Death of the King’s Horseman, written by Abdulmalik A. Amali.
The play will be presented at the Performing and Film Arts Theatre in two sessions:
- 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
CONVOCATION DAY I
Wednesday, October 21, 2026, has been designated as Convocation Day I.
Graduands from the following faculties and institutes will be presented:
- Faculty of Education
- Faculty of Agriculture (Home Economics)
- Faculty of Clinical Sciences (Nursing)
- Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences
- Faculty of Environmental Sciences (Architecture)
- Faculty of Social Sciences
- Institute of Education
CONVOCATION DAY II
Thursday, October 22, 2026, will be Convocation Day II.
The day will feature graduands from:
- Faculty of Arts
- Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences
- Faculty of Environmental Sciences
- Faculty of Life Sciences
- Faculty of Management Sciences
- Faculty of Physical Sciences
CONVOCATION DAY III AND CONVOCATION LECTURE
The third convocation day will hold on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The convocation lecture will have the theme:
“From Lecture Hall to Cabinet Room: The Journey from Academia to Public Leadership.”
The lecture will be delivered by Hon. Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, Honourable Minister, Ministry of Technical and Higher Education of Sierra Leone.
The lecture is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at the University Auditorium.
Other activities scheduled for October 23 include:
- Presentation of degrees to graduands from various faculties
- Cocktail for the convocation lecturer
- Special Juma’at Service
- Commissioning of projects by the Visitor
- Convocation Luncheon
- Staff Merit Awards
The convocation activities will officially conclude on Sunday, October 25, 2026, with a Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Aquinas Chaplaincy by 9:00 a.m.
UNILORIN ANNOUNCES CONVOCATION CHARGES
The university has also outlined mandatory payments for graduands, irrespective of whether they attend the ceremonies, except where otherwise stated.
The listed charges include:
- Undergraduate graduands: ₦20,000 for a student’s copy of transcript and certificate
- Master’s and other postgraduate graduands: ₦20,000 for a student’s copy of transcript and certificate
- Ph.D. graduands: ₦10,000 certificate fee
- Diploma graduands: ₦20,000 for certificate and student’s copy of transcript
Other applicable charges include academic gown hire, order of proceedings, muffler, lapel pin, certificate holder, student ID card (NYSC), service charge and other items depending on the category of graduand.
The university noted that items marked with an asterisk will be coordinated by Unilorin Holdings Limited.
COLLECTION AND RETURN OF ACADEMIC GOWNS
The Order of Proceedings and academic gowns will be available for collection from Monday, October 19, 2026, at the respective faculties and the Postgraduate School.
Graduands are expected to present evidence of payment before collecting the items.
Graduands attending the convocation are required to participate in the Academic Procession and wear the approved academic outfits.
All hired academic gowns must be returned to the respective Faculty Officers on or before Monday, October 26, 2026.
Any gown returned after the deadline will attract a ₦5,000 daily fine.
PAYMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUANDS
Graduands are expected to make their required payments through the University of Ilorin Convocation Portal using MasterCard or Visa ATM cards with sufficient funds to cover the charges and applicable bank charges.
