PRESS RELEASE

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT, LED BY H.E ROTIMI AKEREDOLU

Our attention has been drawn to the decisions of the management board of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, instructing students to commence payment of school fee while the lockdown continues. We perceive this as inconsiderate and insensitive to the current state of the country.

The “stay at home” order by the Federal Government and “lockdown” order by the Ondo State Government has taken the source of livelihood of many of these parents/guardians away from them, if not forever, but in the interim. All over the country, palliative to this effect is being effected to ease the terrible conditions that citizens have been subjected to.

It is not different in Ondo State, where the Government is set to begin its “Feed Ondo” project to its citizens to ease the hardship.

However, that objective will be quickly flawed when we demand of these citizens to pay to the tune of thousands as school fee. But also, is the seemingly intentional plan to exclude future generations in their bid to get educated.

The National Association of Ondo State Students therefore appeals to the state government, led by His Excellency, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) to weigh in on this terrible act on citizens of its state.

Our recommendation would then be that payment of school fee be put on hold till the pandemic is over.

Nonetheless, we won’t leave this piece without commending the state government for its prompt measures to stem the spread and contain the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

Long live NAOSS.
Long live Ondo state.
Long live the Federal Republic of NIGERIA.
Aluta Continua !! Victoria Ascerta!!!

Yours in the struggle,
Kikiowo Ayoade D., GCOSS
