Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has achieved a historic academic milestone following the National Universities Commission (NUC) October/November 2025 accreditation exercise. The institution successfully secured Full Accreditation for 22 undergraduate and 5 postgraduate programmes, marking a new era for the university’s academic standing.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, described this feat as a clear reflection of the university’s steady growth and its absolute commitment to academic excellence and quality assurance.

I. COMPREHENSIVE BREAKDOWN OF ACCREDITED PROGRAMMES

The NUC report, officially signed by the Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, confirms that the following programmes met the rigorous Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS):

  • Faculty of Management Sciences: Full accreditation for undergraduate Accounting, Business Administration, and Public Administration. All postgraduate offerings, including M.Sc. Accounting, Banking and Finance, Management, and Public Administration (M.Sc. & MPA), also secured full status.

  • College of Health Sciences: Critical healthcare programmes including Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science, and Pharmacology earned full accreditation.

  • Faculty of Natural Sciences: A total sweep for Botany, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, and Zoology.

  • Faculty of Arts and Humanities: Arabic, History and International Studies, Islamic Studies, Philosophy, and English and Literary Studies (Note: Christian Religious Studies attained Interim status).

  • Computing and Law: Computer Science and the Law programme (Common and Islamic Law) both attained full status.

  • Social Sciences and Agriculture: Economics and Sociology were fully accredited, alongside Fisheries and Aquaculture in the Faculty of Agriculture.

II. STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

Professor Usman extended profound appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for providing the vital resources and the enabling environment that made this achievement possible. He emphasized that the state government’s consistent investment in the education sector continues to yield tangible, high-impact results for the people of Kogi State.

In a demonstration of academic integrity, the Vice-Chancellor also paid glowing tribute to his predecessor, Professor Marietu Ohunene Tenuche. He acknowledged that her foresight, strategic planning, and resourcefulness during her tenure laid the essential foundation for the success the university is celebrating today.

III. IMPACT ON STUDENT ENROLLMENT AND GRADUATION

This accreditation success carries significant benefits for both current and prospective students:

  • Enhanced Degree Value: Graduates from these programmes can be assured that their degrees are fully recognized by professional bodies and employers globally.

  • NYSC Eligibility: Full accreditation ensures a seamless transition for graduates into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and further postgraduate studies.

  • Admission Quota: The university is now positioned to maintain or potentially increase its admission quotas in these key professional fields, providing more opportunities for qualified candidates.

IV. SUSTAINING THE MOMENTUM

Drawing from his successful track record as the former Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Usman reaffirmed his resolve to elevate PAAU to a level of global preeminence. The university management is already putting measures in place to:

  • Upgrade Facilities: Continuous improvement of laboratories, studios, and library resources.

  • Faculty Development: Investing in advanced research training and professional certifications for academic staff.

  • Interim Status Resolution: Aggressively addressing the requirements to move programmes from interim to full accreditation status in the next cycle.

CONCLUSION: A FUTURE OF ACADEMIC PREEMINENCE

The 2025 NUC accreditation outcome solidifies PAAU’s reputation as a top-tier destination for higher education in Nigeria. The University Management assures all stakeholders—parents, students, and the academic community—that it will not rest on its laurels but will continue to innovate and uphold the highest standards of teaching and research.

Please be guided accordingly.
