The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has formally released the administrative schedule for the mid-term break of the Second Term, 2025/2026 Academic Session. In an official communique signed by the Honourable Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi A. Arigbabu, FMAN, FSTAN, the Ministry outlined the mandatory dates for all educational institutions across the state.

This directive encompasses a broad spectrum of the state’s educational landscape, including all Public and Private Primary and Secondary Schools, as well as Government Technical Colleges. The strategic timing of this break is designed to provide a pedagogical pause, allowing for student recuperation and parent-teacher synergy through the designated Open Day.

Key Dates and Academic Timeline

To ensure a unified academic calendar across the state, school administrators are required to adhere strictly to the following timeline:

Event Scheduled Date Scope of Compliance
Open Day Wednesday, 18th February, 2026 Public & Private Primary/Secondary Schools
Mid-Term Holiday Thursday, 19th — Friday, 20th Feb, 2026 All Schools & Government Technical Colleges
Resumption Monday, 23rd February, 2026 All Students and Academic Staff

The Role of the Open Day Exercise

The Open Day scheduled for Wednesday, 18th February, serves as a critical bridge between the home and the classroom. It is a day dedicated to transparency and academic accountability.

During this exercise, parents and guardians are expected to:

  • Evaluate Performance: Physically inspect their children’s notebooks, assignments, and mid-term test results.

  • Consult Faculty: Engage in one-on-one discussions with class teachers and subject instructors regarding behavioral and academic progress.

  • Identify Interventions: Pinpoint specific subjects where a student may be struggling to ensure corrective measures are taken during the second half of the term.

Administrative Mandate for Technical Colleges and Schools

The inclusion of Government Technical Colleges in this holiday schedule highlights the Ministry’s commitment to a synchronized vocational and general education system. While these colleges often operate on intensive practical schedules, the Ministry emphasizes that the mid-term break is essential for:

  1. Safety Maintenance: Allowing for the routine check of workshop tools and heavy equipment.

  2. Curriculum Review: Giving instructors time to calibrate their lesson plans according to the state’s unified schemes of work.

Ministry Advisory to Parents and Guardians

Prof. Abayomi A. Arigbabu particularly emphasized the safety and moral well-being of the youth during this period. The Ministry’s advisory focuses on two main pillars:

  • Supervision: With students being out of the structured school environment for four consecutive days (including the weekend), parents are urged to take “adequate care of their wards” to prevent accidents or negative social influences.

  • Academic Continuity: While the period is a “holiday,” it should not be an “academic vacuum.” Parents are encouraged to supervise light reading and the completion of mid-term projects to ensure students remain mentally sharp for resumption.

Official Communication Channels

The Ministry remains open for inquiries or reports regarding compliance with this directive through its official headquarters at P.M.B. 2058, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

This announcement serves as a final notice to all stakeholders. Failure of any school—public or private—to comply with the resumption date of Monday, 23rd February, 2026, may result in administrative sanctions by the Ministry’s monitoring and evaluation teams.
