NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi; and others at an exam centre

Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, says that students enrolled for NECO examinations grew from 1.1 million in 2020 to 1.3 million in 2021.

This is just as the examination body also linked the rise in enrolment of pupils sitting the NECO examinations to the integrity and credibility of examinations so far conducted.

Wushishi, who made this known in Yola on his assessment tour of the conduct of NECO examinations in secondary schools in the North East, promised further reforms to improve the integrity of NECO results.

He disclosed that there were challenges besetting the examinations body, but added that he remained committed to realising the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s (Retd.) objective of reforming the examination body such that other international examination bodies will look up to it in terms of conducting credible and reliable examinations.

He said, “I want to see a NECO other international examination bodies look up to for learning certain innovations that have been introduced in NECO, in terms of conducting credible and reliable examinations for NECO.

“President Buhari appointed me as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, with a mandate to go and make sure NECO achieve the objective for which it was established.

“We are going to do everything that is possible within available resources to be able to achieve that.”
