The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of 24 new full-time academic programmes at Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, with effect from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval marks another significant milestone in the University’s commitment to expanding academic opportunities and strengthening its capacity to produce highly skilled graduates across diverse disciplines.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated June 19, 2026, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, and signed by the Director of Academic Planning, National Universities Commission (NUC), Abubakar M. Girei.

According to the Commission, the newly approved programmes comprise 14 undergraduate and 10 postgraduate programmes, all of which will commence in the 2026/2027 academic session.

• B.Ed. Entrepreneurship Education
• B.Sc. Insurance and Risk Management
• B.Ed. Technology Education
• Bachelor of Community Health Science
• B.Eng. Computer Engineering
• B.Eng. Industrial and Production Engineering
• B.Eng. Biomedical Engineering

Approved Postgraduate Programmes

The NUC also approved the commencement of the following postgraduate programmes:

• M.A. Fine and Applied Arts
• Ph.D. Fine and Applied Arts
• M.A. Performing Arts
• Ph.D. Performing Arts
• M.A. Linguistics
• Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Technology (M.Tech.), and Ph.D. in Food Science and Technology
• Ph.D. Hospitality and Tourism Management
• Ph.D. Public Administration
• Ph.D. Mass Communication

The introduction of these programmes is expected to broaden the University’s academic offerings while meeting the growing demand for specialised education in engineering, health sciences, education, management, and the arts.
