The Management of the Isa Kaita College of Education (IKCOE) is pleased to formally address the general public, particularly prospective students and education stakeholders, regarding a significant update in the admission criteria for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic session.

In a proactive move to enhance educational accessibility, the Honourable Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has officially announced a vital revision to the admission guidelines governing Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) applicants. This directive is designed to streamline the entry process and provide a more inclusive pathway for qualified individuals seeking to pursue a career in the teaching profession.

New Eligibility Framework for NCE Applicants

Under this newly approved directive, the College will now consider candidates for admission who have obtained a minimum of four credit passes in relevant subjects at the O’ Level (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, or equivalent). Most notably, candidates falling within this category are now eligible for admission consideration without the mandatory requirement of sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

This shift represents a strategic effort by the Ministry of Education to remove traditional barriers to entry while maintaining rigorous academic standards through secondary evaluation.

Mandatory JAMB Registration and Verification Procedures

While the requirement for the UTME has been waived for these candidates, it is imperative to note that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) remains the central regulatory body for all tertiary admissions. Consequently, the following conditions must be met:

JAMB Registration: All applicants must still undergo the official JAMB registration process to ensure their data is captured within the national tertiary education database.

Document Screening: All submitted academic credentials will be subjected to thorough screening and verification by the College admission office.

Final Certification: Following a successful verification of O’ Level results and institutional screening, admission will be processed and officially certified.

Admission Letters: No student will be considered fully admitted until an official admission letter is generated and issued through the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) platform.

A Renewed Commitment to Academic Excellence

This policy development serves as an encouraging milestone for aspiring students across the region. By creating a more flexible entry point, Isa Kaita College of Education remains committed to fostering an environment where determination and academic potential are recognized and rewarded.

We commend the determination of all prospective applicants as they take this significant step toward joining our vibrant academic community. We look forward to welcoming a new cohort of dedicated students who are ready to contribute to the future of education in Nigeria.

Applicants are encouraged to visit the College admission office or the official portal for further clarification on the registration steps.
