IGNATIUS AJURU UNIVERSITY OF EDUCATION (IAUE) ANNOUNCES 44TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY

The Management of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, is pleased to announce the official dates for its 44th Convocation Ceremony. This follows the gracious approval of the Executive Governor of Rivers State and Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS.

In a parallel development of academic excellence, the University Senate has announced the elevation of 76 senior academic staff to the ranks of Professor and Reader (Associate Professor), marking a significant milestone in the institution’s intellectual growth.

I. 44TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY SCHEDULE

The Chairman of Senate, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, announced the following schedule during an emergency Senate meeting held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026:

Friday, 8th May 2026:
- Activity: Award of First Degrees and Presentation of Prizes.
- Target: All graduating students from the various undergraduate faculties.
Saturday, 9th May 2026:
- Activity: Conferment of Higher Degrees (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters, and Doctorates).
- Target: All graduands from the School of Postgraduate Studies.

II. ELEVATION TO THE RANK OF PROFESSOR

Following the ratification by the University Council, 35 distinguished scholars have been elevated to the rank of Professor. This promotion recognizes their extensive research, teaching excellence, and contribution to their respective fields.

The University Council also ratified the promotion of 41 academic staff to the rank of Reader. These scholars have demonstrated high-level competence and are now positioned as key academic leaders within the university.

IV. MANDATE TO THE NEW LEADERS

The Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, while congratulating the newly promoted staff, delivered a charge for higher responsibility:

Academic Leadership: The new Professors and Readers are expected to act as mentors and provide strategic direction for their departments.
Succession Planning: Professors were specifically advised to support the growth of junior colleagues, ensuring that those with the necessary qualifications are encouraged and guided toward their own eventual promotions.

V. ADMINISTRATIVE ADVISORY FOR GRADUANDS

Payment of Fees: All graduands are advised to complete all outstanding payments, including convocation and certificate fees, via the university portal before the ceremony dates.
Gown Collection: Detailed instructions regarding the collection and return of academic gowns will be released by the Office of the Registrar in the coming days.
Security & Protocol: Guests and well-wishers are encouraged to adhere strictly to security protocols at the University Main Campus during the two-day event.
