FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OWERRI (FUTO) ANNOUNCES POST-UTME AND DIRECT ENTRY ADMISSION FORM FOR 2026/2027 ACADEMIC SESSION

The Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has officially released comprehensive guidelines for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening exercise, introducing a more structured and competitive admission framework built around departmental cut-off tiers and strict data verification rules.

The institution emphasizes that the exercise is designed to ensure only candidates who meet both academic and technical requirements are considered for admission into its various programmes across science, engineering, health sciences, and technology-driven disciplines.

I. EXPANDED OVERVIEW OF THE SCREENING SYSTEM

FUTO’s screening exercise is not a physical examination but a data-driven selection process that integrates:

  • Verified JAMB UTME scores
  • Uploaded O’Level results via JAMB CAPS
  • Departmental eligibility thresholds
  • Candidate bio-data consistency checks

The university has strengthened its admission integrity system to ensure transparency and eliminate discrepancies during selection.

II. IMPORTANT REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS (ADDITIONAL CONTEXT)

Candidates are strongly advised to note the following key compliance conditions:

  • All applicants must ensure their O’Level results are uploaded to JAMB CAPS before the deadline
  • Names, dates of birth, and state of origin must match exactly across:
    • JAMB registration
    • FUTO portal
    • O’Level certificates
  • Any mismatch will automatically disqualify the candidate during screening validation

III. BREAKDOWN OF FACULTY COMPETITION INTENSITY

The tier system introduced by FUTO reflects the level of competition across academic units:

TIER A (150+ CUT-OFF – ENTRY LEVEL COMPETITION)

This includes foundational science, agriculture, and environmental-based programmes. Although classified as entry tier, competition remains high due to large applicant volume.

TIER B (170+ CUT-OFF – HIGH COMPETITION ZONE)

This category includes:

  • ICT-related courses (Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Computer Science)
  • Health sciences (Optometry, Radiography, Public Health Technology)
  • Core engineering disciplines

Applicants in this category are expected to demonstrate stronger academic performance due to limited admission slots.

TIER C (200+ CUT-OFF – ELITE MEDICAL CATEGORY)

The MBBS programme under the College of Medicine remains the most competitive, requiring top-tier UTME performance and exceptional O’Level results in a single sitting where applicable.

IV. DIRECT ENTRY (DE) ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES

Beyond A’Level, OND, HND, and degree qualifications, FUTO now places stronger emphasis on:

  • Transcript submission directly from awarding institutions
  • Strict verification through academic boards
  • JAMB CAPS validation before final admission approval

Failure to submit transcripts before August 17, 2026 will automatically cancel the application regardless of qualification.

V. DIGITAL SCREENING INTENSIFICATION

FUTO has further upgraded its screening process to include:

  • Automated ranking based on combined UTME + O’Level scoring matrix
  • Cross-checking with national identity records (NIN-linked data where applicable)
  • Elimination of manual intervention in early selection stages

This ensures faster admission processing and reduced administrative delays.

VI. FINAL ADVISORY TO APPLICANTS

Candidates are strongly advised to:

  • Regularly monitor the FUTO portal for updates
  • Ensure stable internet access during registration
  • Double-check all uploaded documents before final submission
  • Complete registration well before the deadline to avoid system congestion

Late registration or incomplete data submission will not be entertained under any circumstances.

FUTO reiterates its commitment to maintaining its reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading technology-driven universities, ensuring that only qualified and well-prepared candidates are admitted into its programmes.
