The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, has appointed Engr. Prof. Olumide Moses Ogundipe as its Deputy Vice-Chancellor.

The development has drawn commendation from colleagues and well-wishers within and outside the institution. Prof Ogundipe is currently serving as a National Exco member of Nigerian society of Engineers.

Prof. Ogundipe, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, is a Professor of Civil Engineering with specialisation in Transportation and Highway Engineering.

The appointment caps a career that has spanned more than two decades in academia and engineering practice.

Before his elevation to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ogundipe served as Director of Special Duties in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor at the university.

He had earlier served, on a pro bono basis, as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the institution between April and December 2025, a period during which he coordinated the successful National Universities Commission resource verification exercise for eight programmes in the Faculty.

He currently chairs the university’s Road Projects Monitoring Committee and sits as a member of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

Prof. Ogundipe brings to the office an academic and administrative pedigree built over many years at Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, where he rose through the ranks from Assistant Lecturer in 2004 to Professor with effect from 1st October 2019.

During his time there, he held several leadership positions, including Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Head of Department, and Chairman of the Faculty of Engineering Postgraduate Committee, among other responsibilities on the university Senate and various boards and committees.

He obtained his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, in 2012, having gone there on a Petroleum Technology Development Fund Scholarship awarded in 2008 to research the mechanical behaviour of stress absorbing membrane interlayers.

He holds a Master of Engineering degree obtained in 2006 from the University of Ilorin, and a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours obtained in 2001 from the University of Ado Ekiti, now Ekiti State University.

A prolific researcher, Prof. Ogundipe has authored over 100 publications in local and international journals, as well as in conference and workshop proceedings, with his work centred on sustainable asphalt pavement technologies aimed at improving road performance while protecting the environment.

He has supervised postgraduate theses at the Postgraduate Diploma, Master of Engineering and PhD levels, and has served as an external and internal examiner at institutions including the University of Ilorin, Federal University Oye Ekiti, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, among others.

His professional standing has also earned him roles in the assessment of professorial candidates at universities such as Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and Landmark University, Omu Aran. He has spoken at international conferences in the United Kingdom, the United States, Greece, Poland, France and Ghana, and undertaken technical visits to Germany, Spain and Sweden.

Beyond the university system, Prof. Ogundipe serves as Technical Advisor to the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute on the construction of the National Test Track, and is a member of the Institute’s Technical Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the Ekiti State Road Stakeholders’ Forum.

Within the Nigerian Society of Engineers, he served as Chairman of the Ado Ekiti Branch from 2018 to 2020 and represented the South West on the Society’s National Executive Committee between 2024 and 2025, where he chaired the Innovation and Technopreneurship Committee. He currently chairs the Society’s Memoranda of Understanding Implementation Committee.

Colleagues and associates described the appointment as a well deserved recognition of a career built on academic excellence and steady leadership.

Congratulations to the newly appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University!
