CHUKWUEMEKA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU UNIVERSITY (COOU) RECEIVES NUC APPROVAL FOR 16 NEW ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Professor Kate Azuka Omenugha, has announced the approval of new academic programmes by the National Universities Commission (NUC) following the successful completion of the Commission’s resource verification exercise.

The announcement was made on Thursday, September 24, 2026, during the university’s 35th Inaugural Lecture, held at the ETF Auditorium. The Vice-Chancellor addressed the gathering virtually.

The approval is expected to expand the academic offerings of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and create additional opportunities for prospective students seeking admission into various disciplines.

NUC CONDUCTS RESOURCE VERIFICATION EXERCISE

The development follows a resource verification exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission at the university in the middle of August 2026.

During the exercise, the NUC team assessed the infrastructure, facilities and other resources available for the commencement of academic activities in the proposed programmes.

The resource verification exercise formed part of the requirements for obtaining regulatory approval for the programmes and subsequently admitting students into them.

Following the successful completion of the exercise, the university received confirmation that the programmes had obtained the necessary approval from the National Universities Commission.

UNIVERSITY TO COMMENCE ADMISSIONS

Confirming the development, Professor Kate Omenugha stated that the approval had paved the way for Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University to commence the admission process for the newly approved programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor also assured prospective students that the university would commence the necessary admission processes without unnecessary delay.

Her trip to Abuja coincided with the date of the university’s 35th Inaugural Lecture and was connected to the conclusion of processes surrounding the approval of the programmes. This also accounted for her physical absence from the inaugural lecture, where she participated virtually.
