ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA

The following shall qualify for the Postgraduate Diploma admission:

Graduates of recognized Universities;
Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower Credit pass or its equivalent in relevant areas;
Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) without Education obtained at Credit level with a three years relevant postgraduate experience;
Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate and Senate of the University.
Candidates with Third Class degree in areas other than Education can be considered after three years relevant postgraduate experience. Those in the Education may be considered in their area of specialization;
All candidates shall be subjected to a selection process.

B. MASTER’S DEGREE

The following shall qualify for the Master’s Degree Programmes: –

Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained the approved Bachelors Degree in relevant field, with at least Second-Class Honors or its equivalent.
Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
The following shall qualify for Professional Masters’ degree admission:

Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained the approved Bachelors Degree in relevant field, with at least Second-Class Honors or its equivalent.
Candidates with any Bachelor’s degree in Third Class division who have at least five years relevant working experience.
Candidates who possess Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least a Credit pass and at least a Credit pass at Postgraduate Diploma of a recognized Institution;
Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.
C. DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)

The following shall qualify for the Doctor of Philosophy admission:

Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained a good Masters Degree appropriate to the proposed areas of study;
Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained Masters of Philosophy degree with considered high CGPA to proceed for PHD in the appropriate field to the proposed areas of study;
In addition to (i) – (ii) above, a candidate must possess at least a Bachelors degree in Second Class lower division;
Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University;
Candidate must state the proposed area of research and submit a synopsis of not less than 500 words of the proposed topic of research.
Matriculation Requirement:

In addition to A, B and C above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s matriculation requirements of the programme i.e five Credit Passes at the O’level to include English and Mathematics.

Selection Process:

All candidates shall be subjected to a selection process. There may be screening/entrance examination on a date which would be announced on the University Website (www.umyu.edu.ng). Candidates are therefore advised to check.

Method of Application

Interested candidates for all the Postgraduate Programmes can apply online via the Postgraduate Application Portal from Thursday, 7th November, 2019 to Tuesday, 31st December, 2019.

The procedures of payment of application fees (N10,500) are available at Postgraduate Application Portal.

All candidates are required to request their previous Institutions to forward either soft copy or hard copy of their academic transcripts accompanied by Form B, to the Secretary Postgraduate School, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina.

Soft copy of academic transcripts should be sent via email to [email protected]. All academic transcripts should reach the Secretary of the Postgraduate School not later than the closing date of the application.

The Erasmus Mundus Scholarships in Journalism, Media and Globalization is awarded to Individuals who are seeking to pursue a scholarship opportunity to study for a degree program in Europe, North and South America, or Australia. The Erasmus Mundus scholarships cover tuition fees, insurance, a contribution to student travel and installation costs, as well as a monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the study programme

Category A scholarships (for international students) are expected to be worth €47,000.

FG Declares Monday 11th November A Public Holiday


The Federal Government has declared Monday a Public Holiday to mark the 2019 Eid-ul-Mawlud in commemoration of the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. This was announced by Mr. Mohammed Manga, Director Press and Public Relations of the Ministry of Interior, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.

In the statement, the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, congratulated the Muslim faithful on the occasion and enjoined them to live within the virtues and teachings of the Prophet.

He said imbibing the Prophet’s virtues of love, courage, and perseverance would guarantee peace and security in the country.

Aregbesola expressed confidence that the challenges confronting Nigeria at the moment would soon be over and therefore called on Nigerians to remain focused and determined.

He gave the assurance that with the immense potentials the country is endowed with; coupled with its human and natural resources, Nigeria will sooner than later join the league of developed nations. He added that the government’s desire is to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all Nigerians.

For those that their status is showing “Admission Still in Progress” or “Not Admitted”, you are advised to keep checking as the status may change anytime soon.
