The National Universities Commission, NUC, recently released the results of the October/November 2019 Accreditation of Academic Programmes of four of our programmes in OOU (Transport Management, Physiology, Fine and Applied Arts, and Applied Zoology). I am pleased to confirm that we obtained FULL Accreditation for ALL the four programmes presented. I must congratulate and appreciate all members of staff for the support that made this possible.

It is quite elating that of the 72 academic programmes of the University accredited by the National Universities Commission, 70 have FULL accreditation status while Anatomy and Architecture programmes has Interim and Denied status, respectively. The deficiencies identified in the accreditation status of these two programmes were largely due to inadequacy in space and are being addressed by the on-going construction of Departmental building for the Anatomy and Morbid Anatomy Department in Sagamu Campus and the construction of six modern studios for the Architecture programme at the lbogun Campus. These projects are due for completion before the next accreditation exercise in November 2020 and, with your support and that of the State Government, we will, God willing, get full accreditation status for the two academic programmes.

The University has moved from 76% FULL accreditation status of our academic programmes that we met on assumption of office in 2017 to 97.2%. This is arguably one of the best in the Nigerian University System and it has been achieved with the support of all staff and that of Council, and goodwill of the State Government. It is my prayer that this momentum will be sustained during the upcoming accreditation of 44 academic programmes that are due in November 2020. I have no doubt that with your usual support and our ‘CAN DO’ spirit, and the anticipated release of funds and goodwill of the State Government, we shall also record successful outcomes.

Both for those of us back to our duties and those still working from home, in line with the recent directives of the State Government, I enjoin you to continue to observe strictly the guidelines of the National Centre for Disease Control on the prevention measures against the Coronavirus disease including use of face masks, frequent hand washing, use of sanitizers, and social and physical distancing, among others. Whether at home or at work, we should strive to be safe at all times.

Together shall we achieve the dreams of the founding fathers of OOU to build a University we can all be proud of.

I have always said that your JAMB score alone does not guarantee admission. Regardless of your JAMB score, do not joke with your Post-UTME. This is because Post UTME carries a large percentage in the total score that determines whether or not you gain admission. So a good performance in Post-UTME will help you gain admission even with your low Jamb score.

Don’t abandon your books because you have a high JAMB score. You are supposed to study hard also for your Post-UTME exam. As a matter of fact, in some schools, a high Post-UTME will increase your chances of gaining admission more than a high JAMB score. Nevertheless, it is better to have both a high JAMB score and a high Post-UTME score.

This means you should strive to do well in your Post-UTME. Especially for candidates that scored low in JAMB, Post-UTME is a good opportunity to boost your score.

Over the years, we have observed that candidates with low JAMB scores but high Post UTME scores, securing admission despite the low jamb Score; provided they are able to meet the cut-off mark of their schools of choice.

Schools like UNIBEN takes Post-UTME score very serious. Regardless of your JAMB score once you score anything below 50 in UNIBEN’s Post-UTME. There is a high possibility that you won’t be considered for admission,

In conclusion, while it is good to score high both in Jamb and Post UTME, you can still gain admission to study your desired course if you do well in Post UTME irrespective of your Jamb score. The Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Prof. Adeyemo Tayo, has described the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) as a wonderful innovation that has helped to eliminate fraudsters, admission racketeers, and unqualified candidates from the admission value chain. The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to employ no fewer than 2,000 more teachers in its public primary schools. Meanwhile, it was gathered that both officials of the Federal and State Governments are presently in consultation to fashion out guidelines and modality for reopening of schools which closure was precipitated by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, the state government, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance has designed an initiative, tagged “Read-Aloud, Lagos”, to create and stimulate the interest of school children in reading books.

On the recruitment plan of teachers, the state’s Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo disclosed this during an online show, Covinspiration show, moderated by a United Nations (UN) Youth Ambassador, Dayo Isreal, while giving scorecard of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration within the 360 days.

Adefisayo said the move to employ more teachers was aimed at the standard of public primary school education in the state. She lamented that the pandemic has held the ministry of education back in the completion of its plans for the sector.

According to Adefisayo: “The administration after assumption of office decided to address the challenges in education aggressively in 2020 but the pandemic which country’s index case happened in Lagos has halted various plans for education in the state.”

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cancelled the passing-out ceremonial parade for the 2019 Batch “B” Stream1 corps members, which is slated to hold on May 28th 2020.

It said the development is due to the threat posed by the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

The scheme in a statement issued in Abuja, on Monday, by the Director of Public Relations, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, said in line with the COVID-19 protocol of social/physical distancing, Certificate of National Service (CNS) will be issued to qualified Corps Members at the Local Government level

“Accordingly, a full complement of NYSC Officers have been mobilised for the distribution; and shall do so from ten service points in each of the Local Government Councils,” the statement partly read.

Also, it explained that certificate issuance will be delayed for ten days to allow for a seamless and cumbersome distribution process.

“As a precautionary measure, the distribution shall be staggered for a period of ten days in the first instance, in order to remove anxiety from the concerned corps members, in addition to making the activity seamless and less cumbersome,” it added.

While congratulating corps members for the successful completion of the service, which it described as “a major milestone”, the scheme urged them to ensure;” the strictest observance of discipline; anchored on orderliness, adherence to instructions, added to the rules of social/physical distancing, use of facemask, hand sanitiser and proper washing of the hands with liquid soap for at least twenty seconds during the activity.”

It further warned corps Members who are currently not in their states of service against violating the ban on inter-state journeys but noted that they could proceed to their respective States of service to collect their CNS as soon as the ban is lifted and it is safe to travel.

“Kindly note that unclaimed certificates shall be returned to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja two weeks after the lifting of the inter-state travel ban

All You Should Know About Combining O’Level Results.

Many candidates often ask if their schools of choice will accept the combination of O’level results or accept O’level results obtained after two sittings. Combining O’level results or Using “Two sittings Result” happens when you don’t have all the needed O’level requirements for your course of study in a single result, which means you have to sit for another exam to make up for the remaining required subject (s).

There are three recognized bodies when it comes to conducting O’level examinations in Nigeria;

-The West African Examination Council (WAEC)

-National Examination Council (NECO)

–National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)

One major question students or admission seekers often ask concerning the results obtained from these examination bodies is, “Can I combine “this” with “that”?

Now, let’s deal with that. When it comes to combining O’level results, one thing you should know is that almost all institutions accept two sittings and that means you can actually combine a maximum of two O’Level results when seeking admission into that course (WAEC/NECO, WAEC/WAEC, NECO/NECO, WAEC/NABTEB, NECO/ NABTEB, NABTEB/NABTEB) and their GCE equivalents regardless of the difference between the years you sat for them. However, there are exceptions;

1. Some schools accept 5 credits at one sitting or 6 credits at two sittings for some courses e.g University of Ibadan (UI) accepts O’ level 5 credits at one sitting or 6 credits at two sittings for Law.
2. UNIBEN, UNIBADAN, IMSU, ABSU, EBSU, UNIOSUN, ANSU, UNILORIN, DELSU, UNILAG, UNN, and BOWEN accepts just one sitting for Medicine And Surgery (MBBS).
3. UI Accepts Just one sitting for Pharmacy
4. All Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, etc accept a combination of results but it should not exceed two sittings

Combining O’level results does not really put you at a disadvantage during the admission process. The only time it does is in the instances mentioned above or if your school of choice decides to consider the number of O’level exam sittings as one of the primary criteria in the admission process which rarely happens.

So the bottom line is whether it is one sitting or two sittings, just make sure that you have the right O’level requirements for any course you intend to apply for in your school of choice.
