The Federal Government says it is thinking of sectionalising classes for primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in the country ahead of school reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, stated this on Wednesday during a briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja.

The minister, who faulted the reports that schools would reopen in the country on June 8, said the government could not afford to take any costly risk, especially as it regards the safety of pupils and students in the country.

He said, “Until we are sure these children can go to school, return safely and not bring up with them COVID-19 and infect people who are more susceptible than they are, then we are running a huge risk and God forbid, in our hurry, something happens to our children, I am not sure how anybody will be able to retrieve what has been lost.”

Nwajiuba said the ministry is being guided by the advice of experts as well as those of the World Health Organisation, noting that the decision to reopen schools in the country would be carefully arrived at because education is on the concurrent list of the Nigerian Constitution.

He appealed to private owners of schools in the country to co-operate with the government in ensuring the safe reopening of schools in the country.

“We are going to publish a specification on what we expect COVID-19 or post-COVID-19 reopening to look like. We are not talking about coping with COVID-19 but in spite of COVID-19, we expect that we will adapt.

“For a country that has over 115,000 primary schools, you will understand that 35,000 of these who are private must agree to set up the same standard in other to allow children to go in.

“We may have classes in the morning and classes in the afternoon so that we will have the whole of the infrastructure divided provided they can serve us. I am not sure we will have classes at night. But we can do with morning and afternoon for now,” he explained.

Nwajiuba said aside ensuring that social distancing is observed when schools reopen, said the ministry is working on sanitation in the schools, noting that the government wants to ensure that all schools could deploy pedal-push handwashing machines.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service year of 24 Batch B Stream 1 corps members serving in Lagos State for alleged indiscipline.

The state’s NYSC Coordinator, Eddy Megwa, who disclosed this in a statement titled: “Corps Disciplinary Committee Decision,” said 18 other corps members had also been listed for “pending disciplinary issues.”

He said the service year of the affected corps members would be extended by between two weeks to four months.

The Batch B Stream 1 corps members are expected to pass out on May 28.

Megwa said: “The affected corps members (those with an extension of service year) are to report to NYSC, State Secretariat, Surulere on Wednesday, 27th May, 2020 between 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to collect their respective letters of disciplinary decision. Strict adherence to time scheduled is advised.”

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has urged corps members who at present are not in their States of service, not to violate the ban on inter-state journeys in a bid to collect thair Certificate of National Service (CNS).

NYSC said as soon as the ban is lifted and it is safe to travel, corps members are expected to go to their respective States of service to collect their CNS.

The Scheme also announced that passing-out for the 2019 Batch “B” Stream 1 Corps Members have been slated nationwide for Thursday, 28th May 2020.

NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi (Mrs), yesterday in Abuja, said the event shall be devoid of the ceremonial parade as a result of the threat and danger posed by Coronavirus.

She said “In keeping with COVID-19 protocol of social/physical distancing, Certificate of National Service (CNS) shall be issued to qualified Corps Members at the Local Government level.

“Accordingly, a full complement of NYSC Officers have been mobilised for the distribution; and shall do so from ten service points in each of the Local Government Councils.

“As a precautionary measure, the distribution shall be staggered for a period of ten days in the first instance, in order to remove anxiety from the concerned Corps Members, in addition to making the activity seamless and less cumbersome.

According to her “Management heartily congratulates the 2019 Batch “B” Stream 1 Corps Members for the successful completion of the service, which undeniably is a major milestone.

“Dear Corps Members, as you go for your CNS from Thursday, 28th May, remember to ensure the strictest observance of discipline; anchored on orderliness, adherence to instructions, added to the rules of social/physical distancing, use of facemask, hand sanitiser and proper washing of the hands with liquid soap for at least twenty seconds during the activity.

“Kindly note that unclaimed certificates shall be returned to the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters, Abuja two weeks after the lifting of inter-state travel ban.

“Please, always stay in touch with our social media platforms, as well as the mainstream media for further information.

STRONG indications emerged, yesterday, that officials of the Federal and Lagos State governments are working out guidelines for re-opening of schools, which closure was precipitated by the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

This came as the Lagos State Government hinted that there are plans to employ no fewer than 2,000 more teachers in its public primary schools.

Similarly, the state government, through the Office of Education Quality Assurance, has designed an initiative, tagged: ‘Read-Aloud, Lagos’, to create and stimulate the interest of school children in reading books.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo disclosed this during an online show, Covinspiration show, moderated by a United Nations Youth Ambassador, Dayo Isreal, while giving scorecard of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration within the 360 days.

On the possible re-opening of schools, Adefisayo said: “Like other sectors already approved by the Federal Government to reopen, the state government is meeting with officials of the Federal Ministry of Education to design guidelines that must be adopted before the schools will be re-opened

“We are watching the behaviour of the pandemic to see what happens next and we are working with the Federal government on the re-opening of the schools in the country as soon as possible.

“This is not a decision that any state can unilaterally take on its own. If we are certain that the children are safe, we will reopen the schools for learning to resume.

“We are already working with the Federal Ministry of Education and they are working with National Center for Disease Control, NCDC, on the guidelines that could be adopted when the need arises for the schools to reopen.

“After the protocol is completed and health officials assured us that the coast is clear, we will give the schools some days to adjust their premises in accordance with the guidelines on commencement of academic activities.”

On the recruitment plan of teachers, Adefisayo said: “We have concluded the recruitment of 1,000 secondary school teachers. And we are currently working on the recruitment of 2,000 teachers for public primary schools.

“We are looking at employing teachers every quarter because the rate of retirement of teachers is very high in Lagos. The administration has granted the ministry permission to replace retired teachers.

“Aside from recruitment, we have spent a lot on the training of current teachers to improve their teaching skills in classrooms. And this COVID-19 period was the time when we were able to do a lot of things in the education sector of Lagos state.”

On Read Aloud Initiative, the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, said: “As an education quality assurance person, I was moved by the conviction that children perform better when they are led in the act of reading by someone else.”

Therefore, Reading-Aloud is expected to be the most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success.”

C. GUIDELINES FOR HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA ADMISSION:

All candidates seeking admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes of the Polytechnic must ensure that they were offered admissions through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) during their National Diploma programme(s).

Any candidate that does not have an Admission Letter and Registration Number from JAMB for the National Diploma programme is ineligible for the Higher National Diploma admission as such persons may not be mobilized for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme.

Candidates are to note that these requirements supersede the information contained in the Polytechnic’s Prospectus.

D. PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN BUILDING TECHNOLOGY

i. Candidates must possess a Minimum of a lower credit pass in the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Building Technology obtained from an institution whose programme has earned NBTE accreditation or any equivalent qualification.

ii. Satisfactory completion of NYSC or Evidence of Exemption from the programme.

iii. The duration of full-time course is Eighteen (18) calendar months, i.e., at least three (3) Semesters.

E. PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA IN URBAN AND REGIONAL PLANNING

Candidates must possess the Higher National Diploma (HND) and the National Diploma (ND) in Urban and Regional Planning of the Polytechnic or an equivalent qualification from other similar Institutions whose programmes have earned NBTE Accreditation. In addition, Graduates of Geography and Regional Planning with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division Pass are eligible to apply.

F. METHOD OF APPLICATION

Application forms will be completed online via the Polytechnic website: www.auchipoly.edu.ng (All applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application and screening fee of Fifteen Thousand (₦15,000.00) Naira only payable through the following Banks nationwide in favour of Auchi Polytechnic Treasury Single Account (TSA) No.1000075, using Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) generated from the Polytechnic Website.

1. Open your web browser and type in Auchi Polytechnic URL:

About the School

to display the Auchi Polytechnic web page. Select the desired portal (Morning, Evening or Degree).
2. Click on the link. Apply for Auchi Polytechnic ND, HND OR PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA as it applies to you. The application form request will display.
3. Carefully complete the application form. Ensure that you provide all required information correctly.

NOTE: provide a username, (Preferably your phone number) and a password.
Write your username and password in a safe place because you will need them for subsequent logins. Then click Generate Remita Retrieval Reference.
Take the generated REMITA RETRIEVAL REFERENCE (RRR) to the designated bank and request that your payment be processed on the REMITA platform.
You can also make payments on any REMITA approved payment channels. www.auchipoly.edu.ng
Allow a couple of hours for your payment to be processed before returning to the portal to continue with your application.

Login with your username and password.
Click on Continue With My Application Form.

Complete the application form carefully. Ensure that you provide required information correctly as false information may disqualify your application.

Upload your passport photograph as well as the required scanned copies of your credentials.
Print a copy of the Acknowledgement slip and two copies of the application form.
Print a copy of application summary sheet.

Enclose two (2) sets of photocopies of your credentials; e-receipt of remita payment, birth certificate and two (2) recent passport-sized photographs to the forms in an envelope. Then bring the envelope with you to the Polytechnic on the yet to be announced date for a physical screening exercise.

Any payment procedure generated and processed on any other platform for the purpose of admission is invalid. All payment procedures must originate from the website. The Portal is already integrated with the Remita payment platform.

HEADLINE: The impeachment of Senate President/ Suspension of Executive President.

OUR STAND:

The National Association of Ondo State Students in Lagos State (NAOSS LAGOS), also known as THE LAGOS BROTHERS or LAGOS FAMILY has been a core part of The NAOSS National Body from time immemorial. Characterized by the uniqueness of ideas, cultural enthusiasm, educational vibrancy and dynamism; the Association has since its existence pledged her irreversible allegiance to the achievement of one strong NAOSS.

At this crucial hour that waves of disunity, insubordination, schism, feud and all sorts of unpalatable news are ravaging the National Body, we sincerely wish to make our stand on all these known to the entire NAOSSITES.

First, we have over the hours received summons from various arms of the National Body to decide an impeachment process either for or against the said call. However we remained committed to a very Strong and United NAOSS, we wish to let you know that all our available progressive minded senators and stakeholders are at present deliberating on the way forward. To this end, we urge you to kindly disregard any publication carrying the name of any Senator from any institution in Lagos State.

The institutions which include: Lagos State University, Ojo (LASU), University of Lagos, Akoka (Unilag), Yaba College of Technology, Yaba (YABATECH), Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu (LASPOTECH), Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Epe (MOCPED), Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin (AOCOED), Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka (FCET), Federal College of Marine Institution, Victoria Island (OCEANOGRAPHY), Nigeria French Language Village, Badagry (French Village), Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa (Ogitech), National Open University (Lagos Study Center) amongst others; have not made any tangible decision as to whether to sign any petition or call for impeachment.

On the contrary, we call on the National leaders from both arms of the National Association (The Executive Arm and the Senate Arm) to kindly look for a way to settle rifts between them amicably. This administration has come too far to fail. We have come too far to start a ruinous war that will tear apart the NAOSS we have painstakingly laboured for.

In as much as we are committed to serving a united NAOSS, it will be impossible for us to support or affirm a decision that is harshly made from irrational situations nor the one made in retaliation.

We also use this medium to call on the National Body officials, both Senate and the Executive arms, including all stakeholders and the entire NAOSSITES to kindly intercede in this ravaging fire that is likely to quench the glorious flag of unity in the Association.

The post of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, will become vacant by 01 December, 2020. In accordance with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree No. 11 of 1993 (as Amended by Decree No. 25 of 1996) and by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1993 (Amendment) Act 2003 and Act 2012, the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan wishes to commence the process of filling the vacancy. Interested candidates are requested to note the following information about the University:

THE CANDIDATE

The candidate for the post of Vice Chancellor is required to possess a good University education and should be a proven, successful manager of human and material resources. Specifically, the candidate shall be expected to:

(a) be a highly distinguished scholar of the rank of Professor, with a minimum of ten (10) years experience on that level and demonstrate ability to provide academic and administrative leadership for such a well established institution;

(b) be a person of proven integrity;

(c) be not more than 65 years old as at the date of possible assumption of duty on 01 December, 2020;

(d) command the respect of the national and international academic communities through his/her track record;

(e) strengthen the bridges between staff, students and other members of the University community;

(f) be a person with a clear vision for the development of the University

(g) enjoy excellent physical and mental health;

(h) attract the much-needed funds into the University.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE APPLICABLE TO THE POST

The Vice Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years only on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment.

The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice Chancellor in all Nigerian Federal Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the Government/Governing Council as appropriate.

MODE OF APPLICATION

(i) Each application should be made in 50 copies and be accompanied by 50 copies of the candidate’s curriculum vitae duly signed and dated. The curriculum vitae must contain the candidate’s name in full, date of birth, state of origin, marital status, educational attainment, nationality, professional and academic achievements.

(ii) Each application should include the names and addresses of three referees. Each referee should be contacted by the applicant to forward direct to the Registrar, a confidential report in a properly sealed envelope marked: Post of Vice Chancellor; Referee’s Report at the top left hand corner of the envelope.

(iii) Each application must be accompanied by 50 copies of statement of the candidate’s Vision for the University in the twenty-first century.

(iv) In the case of candidates identified by the Search Team, the application shall conform to the requirements in (i) to (iii) above, in addition to a letter of consent duly signed by the candidate.

(v) All applications shall be submitted under confidential cover and addressed to:
