ADEKUNLE AJASIN UNIVERSITY, AKUNGBA-AKOKO (AAUA) ASSURES STUDENTS OF EARLY RESOLUTION OF ASUU STRIKE
The Management of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, has assured students and other stakeholders that the ongoing industrial action embarked upon by the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) will soon come to an end, following interventions by the Ondo State Government.
The assurance was contained in an official press statement issued by the University’s Management in response to reports of a purported 72-hour ultimatum allegedly issued by the Students’ Union Government (SUG), calling on the state government to resolve the strike.
According to the statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr. Sola Imoru, the university management described the ultimatum as unnecessary, explaining that the state government had already taken concrete steps to address the issues responsible for the strike.
Ondo State Government Has Approved Intervention Fund
The University disclosed that the Governor of Ondo State and Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved a special intervention fund to enable the institution meet its outstanding financial obligations.
Management stated that the process of releasing the approved funds is already underway and that the development had previously been discussed with the leadership of the Students’ Union.
The statement reads:
“Management considers the ultimatum unnecessary as the Governor of Ondo State and Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Hon. (Dr.) Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has already approved a special intervention fund to enable the University to meet its financial obligations.”
Students Urged to Remain Calm
The University appealed to all students to remain calm, patient, and law-abiding while the payment process initiated by the state government is being finalized.
Management expressed optimism that the ongoing industrial dispute would soon be resolved, allowing normal academic activities to resume.
University Advises Student Leaders to Verify Information
The University Management also advised the leadership of the Students’ Union to always seek clarification from the university authorities before making public statements on issues concerning the institution.
According to the statement, constructive dialogue remains the best approach to resolving challenges affecting the university community.
The statement further noted:
“Management remains committed to constructive engagements and believes that dialogue is the most effective approach to resolving issues of mutual concern.”
