Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has secured pre-clinical accreditation for its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), alongside approval to increase its annual medical student admission quota from 50 to 120.

The approval followed a comprehensive accreditation visit conducted by an 11-member MDCN team to the University on Tuesday, 21st April, 2026, during which the institution’s College of Medicine was evaluated based on national standards for medical education, infrastructure, staffing, and clinical training.

In a letter dated May 7, 2026, signed by Prof. Fatima Kyari, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of MDCN, the Council officially conveyed approval for the pre-clinical accreditation of the University’s MBBS programme and also approved the increase of its medical admission quota from 50 to 120 students annually.

The accreditation visitation team, led by Dr. N. U. Nwakanma, Deputy Registrar of MDCN, carried out a detailed assessment of the University’s teaching facilities, laboratories, diagnostic equipment, governance structure, curriculum implementation, clinical affiliations, and academic manpower.

Reacting to the development, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Achievers University, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, described the approval as a landmark achievement for the institution and a significant contribution to Nigeria’s healthcare sector.

According to him, the approval reflects years of strategic investment in infrastructure, personnel, and academic systems aimed at building a medical college capable of meeting global standards.

He further disclosed that the University currently has the capacity to admit over 3,000 students across its 38 academic programmes and continues to expand its academic and infrastructural capacity to meet the increasing demand for quality higher education.

Also speaking, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oyesoji Aremu, stated that the increased admission quota demonstrates the Council’s confidence in the University’s institutional readiness and capacity.

He noted that the development further confirms the University’s commitment to producing highly skilled medical professionals equipped to tackle modern healthcare challenges.

In another major development, Professor Aremu revealed that the University recently secured full accreditation for seven academic programmes presented for re-accreditation. The programmes include:

  • Medical Laboratory Science
  • Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Computer Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Microbiology
  • Criminology and Security Studies
  • Sociology

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the approvals reflect the institution’s sustained dedication to academic excellence, professional standards, and continuous improvement across all disciplines.

Congratulations to the Achievers University community on this remarkable achievement.
