The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francis Igbasan, on behalf of the University Management and Senate, is delighted to invite parents, guardians, and the general public to the 14th Matriculation Ceremony. This event is a landmark tradition where we officially welcome our newest scholars into the academic fold for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Matriculation is far more than a ceremony; it is a formal contract. By taking the matriculation oath, students transition from being applicants to becoming full-fledged members of the university, entitled to all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities that come with it.

Event Schedule: Mark Your Calendars

To ensure a smooth and dignified ceremony, we encourage all guests and students to adhere strictly to the following schedule:

  • Date: Friday, 30th January 2026

  • Venue: Stephen & Hannah Obaro Multipurpose Hall

  • Time: 10:00 AM Prompt

Student Arrival: To participate in the academic procession, all matriculating students must be fully dressed in their regalia and seated by 9:15 AM.

The Significance of the Ceremony

This 14th Matriculation Ceremony represents a new chapter for both the students and the institution. It is built on three core pillars:

  1. Academic Excellence: Students are introduced to a culture of rigorous inquiry and research.

  2. Discipline: As a community of scholars, we uphold high standards of conduct and mutual respect.

  3. Character Development: We believe that learning is incomplete without the refinement of character and leadership skills.

Essential Guidelines for Matriculating Students

To make your “Big Day” successful, please follow this step-by-step checklist:

1. Registration & Fee Clearance

Only “bonafide” students who have completed their screening, paid their school fees, and registered their courses are eligible to matriculate. Ensure your status is cleared on the university portal before the 30th of January.

2. Academic Regalia (Gowns)

The matriculation gown is the official attire of the day.

  • Collection: Gowns can be collected from your respective Faculty Offices upon presentation of a fee payment receipt.

  • Care: Please handle the gown with care. You are responsible for returning it in good condition.

  • Return: All gowns must be returned to the Faculty Office within 48 hours after the ceremony to avoid late-return penalties.

3. The Matriculation Oath

The highlight of the event is the taking of the Matriculation Oath, administered by the Registrar. This is your formal pledge to follow the university’s rules and pursue your studies with integrity.

4. Signing the Register

Immediately following the ceremony, you must proceed to your Department to sign the Matriculation Register. Note: If you do not sign the register, your admission is not legally finalized, even if you attended the ceremony.

Information for Parents and Guests

We are honored to have you share in this milestone. Please take note of the following for your comfort:

  • Parking: Follow the directions of the campus security personnel to designated parking areas.

  • Photography: While we encourage capturing memories, please do not obstruct the official university photographers or the academic procession.

  • Refreshments: Many faculties and student associations arrange for light refreshments after the main event. Check with your student’s faculty for details.

A Message to the New Scholars

You are joining an institution that prides itself on being a “transformative” environment. Over the next few years, you will be challenged to think differently, work harder, and lead with purpose. This ceremony is the first step on that journey.

We look forward to seeing you in your gowns, ready to take your place in this vibrant academic community.

Congratulations on your admission! We will see you at the Stephen & Hannah Obaro Multipurpose Hall on January 30th.
