Virtual Matriculation: National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Matriculates Over 15,000 Students
Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, has enjoined new students of the university to rise to the challenges of the modern world in their quest for knowledge, including eradicating future diseases like the current Covid-19.
He made the call during the university’s 19th matriculation ceremony, which was held online this Saturday, 13th June, 2020.
In a welcome address to the over 15,000 new students, which he read over the Zoom application to which many of the students logged on from all over the country, Adamu urged them to see any challenge they encounter in the course of their studies as a building block.
“One block at a time, and you will erect a mansion,” he said, adding, “You are in the best position to do this because your learning is powered by your personal desire to learn.”
The vice-chancellor noted that while many students enter higher institutions in order to become educated so that they can get jobs, the matriculating students at NOUN already have jobs and occupations.
Adamu said because technology has become a commodity, NOUN has optimised its online facilitation exercise such that students can easily interact directly with their lecturers.
He pointed out that the university was the only one having a Directorate of Learning Content Management System (CLMS) which in due course could become a full-fledge online university.

JAMB Policy Meeting 2020: What Candidates Should Expect From The Meeting
By now you must have known that the 2020 JAMB policy meeting has been scheduled to hold on Tuesday, June 16th, 2020. Most candidates do not know the essence and the importance of the JAMB policy meeting each year. This post is to highlight the importance of the meeting and what candidates should expect after the meeting.
JAMB has already stated that the meeting will chart policy directions for the nation’s tertiary institutions, set admission guidelines, and make a holistic review of application statistics, performance, decide concessional and acceptable minimum admissions standards as well as evaluate the 2019 admissions exercise
However, many candidates do not know in simple terms what these means. So we have decided to break it down in simple terms so candidates will understand clearly and know what to expect after the meeting.
What Candidates Should Expect After 2020 JAMB Policy Meeting
So as we wait for the outcome of the JAMB Policy Meeting, below are the things you should expect during and after the meeting:
1.The 2020 official minimum Cut off marks for Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education will be decided and made know after the meeting.
2. The 2020 admission deadlines for all institutions will be made known after the meeting
JAMB may reveal application statistics and institutions with the highest number of applications during the meeting
3. How institutions performed during the 2019/2020 admission exercise will equally be addressed
4. The meeting will signal the commencement of the 2020 Admission exercise. This means schools will start announcing their Post-UTME screening and sales of form after the meeting. This means Post-UTME is around the corner. If you haven’t started preparing, you better do now.

ASUU Seeks Life Sentence For Rape Offenders
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says death sentence and castration of rape offenders is not sufficient to end incessant rape cases in the country.
Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, the ASUU National President, in a statement today said imposing death sentence and castration on rapists, was just like going to an extreme without addressing root causes of the problem.
Ogunyemi advocated a life sentence for rape offenders rather than death sentence, saying the offender could end up becoming an advocate against rape after undergoing reforms in the prison.
He described rape as a form of pervasion and abnormal way of behaving caused by psychological dislocation or mental problem exhibited by the rapist.
According to him, the social environment the nation finds itself also creating avenues for such act to be perpetrated.
He urged the federal government to grant free education and health care services to Nigerians to enable them pay more attention in bringing up their children as well as reduce pressure on family units.

NANS Show Support, Asks FG To Allow Schools Reopen
The National Association Of Nigeria Students, NANS, has said it is fully in support of the planned protest by concerned tertiary students to allow campuses resume with health protocols.
This is coming at a time where many Nigerian students are expressing their eagerness to resume lectures, considering a lot of factors which has continued to affect them morally, financially and academically.
The coordinator of NANS Zone A, Comrade Zakari Hashim CNS, in an exclusive interview with CAMPUSINFO today (Sunday), said agitating for schools to reopen is a welcome development and the arm will provide support.
“It is a welcome development. You have my support. The Federal Government should announce a date. They should also reach an agreement with ASUU before resumption”, he said.
Comrade Zakari also emphasized that isolation centers should be located at every federal Institution to monitor suspected cases.
Asked if he was aware of the recent demands by NANS which are declaration of free academic year to all Nigerian students, provision for food items, and payment of study allowances to students of tertiary institutions, he confirmed that truly, those are also pending demands for the government to grant upon resumption
