YSU Releases Academic Calendar for 2025/2026 Academic Session

The management of Yobe State University (YSU) has officially released the approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session. The calendar was signed by the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Mohammed Bukar Ngamdu, and it contains all the important dates and activities that will guide students and staff throughout the academic year.

This calendar is very important because it helps everyone plan properly for registration, lectures, examinations, and breaks. Students are advised to study it carefully and keep a copy for reference.

First Semester Overview

The first semester will begin with registration and other academic activities for both new and returning students.

Registration Exercise

• Start Date: Monday, 19th January 2026

• End Date: Saturday, 31st January 2026

This is a two-week registration period. All students must complete their registration within this time. Registration confirms a student’s status in the university and allows them to attend lectures and take part in exams.

Late Registration

• Date: 2nd February – 7th February 2026

This is for students who fail to register during the normal registration period. Late registration may attract penalties, so students are encouraged to register early.

Add and Drop Registration

• Date: 9th February – 21st February 2026

This period allows students to:

• Add new courses

• Drop courses they no longer wish to take

• Correct mistakes in course registration

Commencement of Lectures

• Date: Monday, 2nd February 2026

• End Date: Saturday, 9th May 2026

• Duration: 14 weeks

Lectures will run for fourteen weeks. Students are expected to attend all classes and take their studies seriously.

Matriculation Ceremony

• Date: Thursday, 19th February 2026

This is the official ceremony where newly admitted students are formally welcomed into the university. After matriculation, students become full members of the university community.

First Semester Examinations

• Start Date: Monday, 11th May 2026

• End Date: Saturday, 6th June 2026

• Duration: 4 weeks

Students will sit for their first semester exams during this period. Adequate preparation is advised.

Inter-Semester Break

• Date: 8th June – 13th June 2026

• Duration: 1 week

This short break allows students to rest before the start of the second semester.

Second Semester Schedule

The second semester begins shortly after the inter-semester break.

Commencement of Lectures

• Start Date: Monday, 15th June 2026

• End Date: Saturday, 5th September 2026

• Duration: 12 weeks

Lectures will run for twelve weeks. Students must attend classes regularly and complete all academic activities.

Second Semester Examinations

• Start Date: Monday, 7th September 2026

• End Date: Saturday, 3rd October 2026

This is the final examination period for the 2025/2026 academic session.

Marking Period

• Date: 5th October – 24th October 2026

• Duration: 3 weeks

During this time, lecturers will mark scripts and prepare results.

External Moderation and Consideration of Results

After marking:

• Scripts will be moderated by external examiners

• Results will be considered at departmental, faculty, and senate levels

This ensures fairness and academic quality.

Resumption for 2026/2027 Session

The resumption date for the next academic session will be communicated later by the university management.
