FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, MINNA (FUTMINNA) ANNOUCES 38TH MATRICULATION CEREMONY

The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA), through the Office of the Registrar, has officially announced the details for its 38th Matriculation Ceremony. This milestone event for the 2025/2026 Academic Session serves as the formal gateway through which newly admitted students transition into recognized members of one of Nigeria’s premier specialized universities.

Scheduled for Monday, 16th February 2026, the ceremony is a mandatory legal and academic rite of passage. It marks the point where “freshmen” take a solemn oath to uphold the rules of the institution and are assigned their permanent matriculation numbers—the unique identifiers that will follow them through their academic journey and into their professional alumni records.

Ceremonial Schedule and Logistics

The university has centralized the event at the Main Campus to accommodate the large influx of students, parents, and distinguished guests.

Event Date Time Venue
Mandatory Rehearsal Friday, 13th Feb 2026 2:30 P.M. Convocation Square, Gidan Kwano
Main Ceremony Monday, 16th Feb 2026 10:00 A.M. Convocation Square, Gidan Kwano

Important Note on Punctuality: The University Senate maintains strict ceremonial protocols. All matriculating students must be fully robed and seated by 9:30 A.M. prompt. This allows for the orderly entry of the Academic Procession, which includes the Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar, and Deans of various Schools.

The Mandatory Rehearsal: Why It Matters

Often overlooked by students, the rehearsal on Friday, 13th February, is a critical component of the matriculation process. During this session, the Deputy Registrar (Academic) and the University Marshal will guide students through:

  • The Academic Procession: Learning the order of entry and the significance of standing when the Mace (the symbol of university authority) enters the square.

  • The Matriculation Oath: Practicing the synchronized recitation of the oath of allegiance.

  • Seating Arrangements: Familiarizing themselves with their School’s designated blocks to ensure a seamless flow during the main event.

Academic Gown Collection and Financial Clearance

In line with the university’s digital-first policy, the collection of academic regalia is strictly tied to the verification of financial standing.

Procedure for Collection:

  • Date of Collection: Friday, 13th February 2026.

  • Location: Respective School Secretaries (at the various Schools within the university).

  • Requirement: Students must present a printed online school fees payment receipt for the 2025/2026 session.

The 24-Hour Return Policy:

Management has issued a stern directive regarding the return of academic gowns. To ensure the preservation of university property and the readiness of regalia for future events, all gowns must be returned within 24 hours after the ceremony. Failure to comply with this deadline will result in financial penalties or the withholding of departmental registration privileges.

The Legal Weight of the Matriculation Oath

Matriculation at a Federal University of Technology is more than a photo opportunity; it is a contract. By signing the Matriculation Register and taking the oath, students are legally bound to:

  1. Academic Excellence: Committing to the rigors of a STEM-focused (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curriculum.

  2. Disciplinary Compliance: Explicitly renouncing membership in secret cults and anti-social organizations.

  3. Property Stewardship: Pledging to protect the university’s high-tech laboratories and infrastructure.

Fresh students who fail to participate in this ceremony without a valid, Senate-approved excuse risk the forfeiture of their admission, as they will lack a signed matriculation record.

Invitation to the Public

The university community, led by the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar, cordially invites parents, guardians, and the general public to witness this historic occasion. The 38th Matriculation signifies FUTMINNA’s continued dedication to “Technology for Service,” as it prepares a new generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators to tackle global challenges.

Announced by:

Mrs. Omolola O. Alhassan (JP),

Deputy Registrar (Academic), for Registrar.
