FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, AKURE (FUTA) ANNOUNCES 38TH CONVOCATION CEREMONY


The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), one of Nigeria’s leading institutions of science and technology, has officially announced the schedule for its 36th Convocation Ceremony. The grand event is set to hold from Friday, November 7, 2025, through Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the university’s main campus in Akure, Ondo State.

This annual convocation is one of the most anticipated academic events in FUTA’s calendar, bringing together scholars, alumni, parents, friends, and dignitaries to celebrate the academic and professional accomplishments of graduating students. It also serves as a moment for reflection on the university’s progress, innovation, and contributions to national development.


A Week of Celebration and Reflection

The 2025 Convocation Week is designed to run for nine days, featuring a rich blend of academic, cultural, spiritual, and social activities that reflect FUTA’s identity as a community of learning, creativity, and leadership.

Each day of the programme offers something unique—from formal academic ceremonies to community engagement events—all aimed at honoring the achievements of both students and faculty, while reinforcing the university’s vision of technological advancement and global relevance.


Highlights of the 36th Convocation Week

Friday, 7 November 2025 – Opening Events
The convocation activities will begin with a Press Briefing at the T. I. Francis Auditorium at 10:00 a.m. Here, the Vice-Chancellor and members of the management team will officially unveil the lineup of events and share key highlights of the university’s achievements over the past academic year.

Later in the day, a Jumu‘at Service will hold at the FUTA Central Mosque, Obanla, by 2:30 p.m. The service will offer prayers for peace, unity, and continued progress for the university community and the nation at large.


Sunday, 9 November 2025 – Interdenominational Thanksgiving
An Interdenominational Service will take place at St. Albert Catholic Church, Akure, beginning at 8:00 a.m. The thanksgiving service will bring together staff, students, alumni, and guests from diverse backgrounds to express gratitude for another successful academic session. It will also serve as a spiritual reflection point for graduands as they prepare to step into the next phase of their lives.


Monday, 10 November 2025 – Excellence and Productivity Awards
The week continues with the Excellence and Productivity Award Ceremony at Afen Adebayo Multipurpose Hall at 3:00 p.m. This event recognizes outstanding contributions from academic and non-academic staff who have distinguished themselves through research, innovation, service, and leadership.

It is a moment to honor dedication, reward creativity, and inspire others to uphold FUTA’s legacy of excellence in higher education and technological advancement.


Tuesday, 11 November 2025 – Career and Sports Engagements
The day begins with a Career Talk at the T. I. Francis Auditorium at 10:00 a.m., where industry leaders and professionals will engage students on workplace readiness, entrepreneurship, and emerging opportunities in technology-driven industries.

Simultaneously, an Exhibition showcasing innovations, research outputs, and student projects will be held at the Afen Adebayo Multipurpose Hall, providing a platform for young inventors and researchers to display their creativity and problem-solving skills.

The day concludes with a Novelty Football Match at the University Sports Complex by 3:30 p.m., reinforcing the institution’s commitment to teamwork, discipline, and physical wellness.


Wednesday, 12 November 2025 – Alumni Reunion and Convocation Meeting
The day will commence with the Convocation Meeting at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium by 9:00 a.m. This meeting will review preparations for the main convocation ceremonies and ensure smooth coordination across all participating units.

Later in the evening, the Alumni Dinner and Awards will hold at Afen Adebayo Multipurpose Hall at 5:00 p.m. The dinner will bring together generations of FUTA alumni who continue to make remarkable impacts globally. Awards will be presented to distinguished alumni for their contributions to society and their continued support for their alma mater.


Thursday, 13 November 2025 – Diplomas, Certificates, and Student Variety Show
This day will begin with the Award of Diplomas and Certificates at the T. I. Francis Auditorium at 9:00 a.m., celebrating students who have successfully completed professional and technical programmes.

At 10:00 a.m., the Alumni Meeting and Lecture will hold at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium, featuring a keynote presentation focused on alumni engagement and mentorship.

The day will close with the much-anticipated Students’ Variety Show at 5:00 p.m.—a lively showcase of music, dance, drama, and comedy celebrating the vibrant spirit of FUTA students.


Friday, 14 November 2025 – Award of First Degrees and Convocation Lecture
This marks one of the most significant days of the entire week. Proceedings begin with the Commissioning of Projects at various designated sites on campus from 8:00 a.m., symbolizing FUTA’s continuous infrastructural and academic growth.

At 10:00 a.m., the Award of First Degrees will take place at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium, where hundreds of deserving students will be officially conferred with their degrees.

This will be followed by the Convocation Lecture, titled “Strategies and Tactics for Solving Skills Challenges in Nigeria: The Roles of Government, Institutions, and the Youth”, to be delivered by Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN, former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, as well as a former Minister of Labour. The lecture promises to be a thought-provoking discussion on how Nigeria can harness its youthful population to drive national development.


Saturday, 15 November 2025 – Postgraduate Convocation and Luncheon
The grand finale will feature the Award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s, and Doctorate Degrees at Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium beginning at 10:00 a.m.

This event celebrates the achievements of FUTA’s advanced scholars who have contributed new knowledge to research and technology. It is the culmination of years of dedication and academic pursuit.

The week will conclude with the Convocation Luncheon at the Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge at 2:00 p.m., offering an opportunity for guests, faculty, and alumni to connect, reflect, and celebrate the successful conclusion of the ceremony.


Important Notes for Graduating Students

All graduating students are required to participate fully in the academic procession, dressed in approved academic gowns. Gowns will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis upon payment of the designated fees.

Graduands are advised to liaise with their respective Schools or Departments for details regarding payment procedures, invitation cards, rehearsal schedules, and gown collection.
