The Management of Federal University Dutse (FUD), through the Students’ Affairs Division, has officially announced the opening of applications for the 2025/2026 Students’ Benevolent Scholarship Scheme. In a circular released on February 16, 2026, by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, the university invited indigent students facing genuine financial hardships to apply for this vital support initiative.

This scheme is a cornerstone of FUD’s student welfare policy, specifically designed as a safety net for vulnerable students who risk delaying their education due to an inability to cover registration fees. By providing targeted financial relief, the university aims to ensure that socioeconomic barriers do not hinder academic excellence or lead to student attrition.

Eligibility and Exclusion Criteria

The university has clearly defined the boundaries of this scholarship to ensure it serves as a “last resort” for those without alternative funding. The following eligibility rules apply:

• Indigent Status: The scheme is strictly for students who can prove significant financial difficulty in meeting university obligations.

• Excluded: Paid Students: Any student who has already completed the payment of their registration fees for the 2025/2026 session is not eligible.

• Excluded: NELFUND Beneficiaries: Students who have already been verified for, or have received disbursement from, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) are ineligible. This prevents the duplication of benefits and ensures the limited funds reach those without any other credit options.

Application Requirements and Submission Process

To be considered for the scholarship, interested students must strictly adhere to the following application protocols as outlined by the Students Relation Officer, Sani Sabo Idris:

1. Form Collection: Interested students are required to obtain and complete the official application form attached to the university’s circular at the Students’ Affairs Division.

2. Academic Documentation: Applicants must provide a stamped copy of their previous semester’s results to verify their current academic standing and ensure they are making satisfactory progress.

3. Submission Point: Completed forms and supporting documents should be submitted directly to the Students Relation Office.

4. Deadline: The application window is time-sensitive, with a final submission deadline set for Monday, 23rd February 2026.

The Screening and Selection Process

The scholarship process is governed by a dedicated Benevolent Committee. This committee is tasked with conducting a thorough screening of all applicants to ensure aid reaches the most critical cases.

• Verification: The committee will review the stamped results and financial claims made in the application forms.

• Selection: Successful applicants will be determined based on a combination of financial need and academic performance.

• Disbursement: Once selected, the scholarship typically covers a portion or the entirety of the student’s registration fees for the current session, paid directly to the university’s accounts on the student’s behalf.
