Rep Seeks Suspension of WAEC CBT Exams till 2030
The House of Representatives has directed the Federal Ministry of Education and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to suspend the planned commencement of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for the 2026 examination with immediate effect.
The House also urged the Ministry, in collaboration with state governments, to make provisions in the 2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029 budgets for the recruitment of computer teachers, construction of computer halls with internet facilities, supply of standby generators, and monitoring of private schools’ readiness before implementing the CBT policy in 2030.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion of urgent public importance moved by Rep. Kelechi Wogu, titled “Need for Intervention to Avert the Pending Massive Failure of Candidates Intending to Write the 2026 WAEC Examination Using Computer-Based Testing (CBT), Capable of Causing Depression and Deaths of Students”, at Thursday’s plenary.
Leading the debate, Rep. Wogu noted that WAEC is responsible for conducting examinations that qualify students for higher education. He stressed that many institutions require candidates to have at least five credits, including English and Mathematics, in WAEC to gain admission.
He recalled that the 2025 WAEC result portal was temporarily shut down due to “technical glitches,” leaving many candidates distressed.
Rep. Wogu expressed concern that despite opposition from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and heads of schools, especially in rural areas where over 70 percent of students are located, the Ministry of Education has insisted on introducing CBT for the 2026 examination.
The House is cognisant that computer-based examinations require fully equipped halls with functional computers, internet access, and constant electricity—either from the national grid or standby generators,” he said.
He noted that about 25,500 schools nationwide are expected to present candidates for the 2026 examination, which will run concurrently for four months, from March to July. However, most schools—particularly in rural areas—lack functional computers and qualified computer teachers.
The lawmaker argued that, unlike JAMB, WAEC candidates are required to take at least nine subjects, including practicals, objectives, and theory, which makes a rushed transition to CBT unrealistic.
He warned that premature implementation of the policy could result in widespread failure, frustration, depression, and social vices among students, and recommended a minimum of three years of preparation before rollout in the 2029–2030 academic session.
The House unanimously adopted the motion and mandated its Committees on Basic Examination Bodies, Digital and Information Technology, Basic Education and Services, and Labour, Employment and Productivity to interface with relevant stakeholders in the education and technology sectors and report back within four weeks for further legislative action.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has officially activated its online screening portal for candidates newly admitted into full-time undergraduate programmes for the 2025/2026 academic session.
According to the university management, all newly admitted students are expected to visit the UNILAG student portal to complete their online screening and registration procedures without delay. This marks the formal commencement of the post-admission process for fresh intakes across all faculties.

UMARU MUSA YAR’ADUA UNIVERSITY, KATSINA (UMYUK) RELEASES SUPPLEMENTARY & UPDATED SECOND ADMISSION LIST FOR 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
This is to inform the general public, especially all prospective candidates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina (UMYUK), that the school management has officially released the merit admission list for successful candidates for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The university has made it easy for candidates to check their names and admission status. Both the 2nd updated merit admission list and the supplementary admission list for the 2025/2026 academic session are now available for viewing. These lists include the names of candidates who have been offered admission into various courses of study at UMYUK.
Candidates are advised to carefully go through the list to see if they have been admitted. The admission process is very important, and it is necessary to follow all instructions provided by the school and the JAMB portal to secure your admission.
Important Steps for Admitted Candidates
-
Upload Your O’Level Results:
All admitted candidates must ensure that they upload their correct O’Level results (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB, etc.) through the JAMB portal within one week of seeing their admission status. This step is very important. Failure to upload the correct results may lead to the forfeiture of the admission offer, which means the candidate may lose the chance to study at UMYUK. -
Accept Your Admission on JAMB CAPS:
After confirming your admission, candidates are required to accept the admission offer on the JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS). This step is crucial because until you accept the admission on CAPS, it is not considered official. -
Print Your Admission Letter:
Once the admission is accepted, candidates should print their admission letters from the JAMB portal. The admission letter is an official document showing that you have been admitted into the university. It may be needed during registration at UMYUK.
Where to Check the Admission List
-
The 2nd updated merit admission list for 2025/2026 can be viewed online.
-
The supplementary admission list for 2025/2026 is also available and can be checked on the university website or other official platforms provided by UMYUK.
Candidates should make sure they check the correct list. Some students may appear on the second list, while others may be on the supplementary list. It is important to check both lists to confirm admission.
Tips for Prospective Candidates
-
Always use the official UMYUK platforms or the JAMB portal to confirm your admission. Avoid unofficial sources to prevent being misled.
-
Ensure that your personal information, such as name, date of birth, and O’Level results, is correct. Errors may delay your admission process.
-
Do not wait until the last minute to upload your O’Level results or accept your admission. Doing it early avoids unnecessary problems.
-
Keep a printed copy or screenshot of your admission status and admission letter for future reference.
Additional Information About JAMB CAPS
JAMB CAPS is a platform that helps candidates track their admission status. It shows whether a candidate has been offered admission and allows candidates to accept or reject the admission. All admitted students must log in to their JAMB CAPS account to accept the admission.
Remember: accepting your admission on JAMB CAPS and uploading your O’Level results are mandatory steps. If you miss these steps, your admission can be canceled, and you may lose the chance to study at UMYUK for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Final Words for Candidates
Being offered admission into Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina, is an achievement worth celebrating. However, it comes with responsibilities. Following the steps mentioned above carefully will help ensure that your admission is secure and that you can start your academic journey without issues.
Make sure you:
-
Check the correct admission list (2nd updated or supplementary).
-
Upload your O’Level results to the JAMB portal within the given time.
-
Accept your admission on JAMB CAPS.
-
Print your admission letter for registration purposes.

The Vice-Chancellor, assisted by the Registrar and Deans of Faculties, will confer the degrees on behalf of the university. Outstanding students who have distinguished themselves in academics and leadership will also receive special awards and honors.
The ceremony will be attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, representatives from government agencies, and families of the graduating students. It is expected to be a colorful and joyful event, filled with excitement, speeches, and celebration.

FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OTUOKE (FUOTUOKE) RELEASES INTER/INTRA FACULTY TRANSFER FORM FOR 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
The Federal University Otuoke (FUOTUOKE) has officially announced the opening of the Inter/Intra Faculty Transfer application process for the 2025/2026 academic session. This opportunity is designed to assist students who, for various reasons, wish to change their course or department either within the same faculty or to another faculty entirely.
The management encourages all interested students to take advantage of this window to align their academic pursuits with their interests, abilities, and long-term career goals. The transfer process, however, is guided by specific eligibility requirements and procedures to ensure transparency, fairness, and academic integrity.
Understanding Inter/Intra Faculty Transfer
The Inter/Intra Faculty Transfer process allows registered students of FUOTUOKE to officially change from their current academic programme to another, provided they meet the stipulated requirements.
-
An Intra-Faculty Transfer occurs when a student moves from one department to another within the same faculty — for instance, from Political Science to Sociology, or from Electrical Engineering to Mechanical Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering.
-
An Inter-Faculty Transfer, on the other hand, involves a move from one faculty to a completely different faculty — for example, from Computer Science (Faculty of Science) to Accounting (Faculty of Management and Social Sciences).
The purpose of this process is to ensure that students who discover a stronger interest or aptitude in another field can redirect their studies without having to withdraw and reapply for admission through JAMB. However, FUOTUOKE emphasizes that this process is strictly regulated to maintain the quality and standard of academic performance across departments.
Eligibility Requirements
Before initiating a transfer request, interested students must ensure that they meet the minimum eligibility criteria as set by the university. The key conditions are as follows:
-
Minimum CGPA Requirement:
Every applicant must have attained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.50 at the time of application. This requirement ensures that only students with satisfactory academic standing are eligible to transfer. The CGPA benchmark reflects the university’s commitment to academic excellence. It ensures that only students who have demonstrated a consistent level of performance are considered, while encouraging others to improve their academic results before applying in the future.
-
Good Academic and Disciplinary Standing:
Students currently under any disciplinary action or academic suspension are not eligible to apply. The transfer opportunity is reserved for students in good standing with the university’s code of conduct and academic regulations. -
Availability of Space in the Target Programme:
Transfer into any department or programme is subject to the availability of space and the approval of the admitting department. Departments are not obliged to accept all applicants and will only approve transfers if their class size and resources permit.
Step-by-Step Application Procedure
The university has outlined a clear and straightforward procedure for students who wish to apply for transfer. Every step must be completed properly to ensure that the application is processed without delay.
Step 1: Payment of Application Fee
-
Applicants are required to make an online payment of a non-refundable fee of ₦10,000 through the designated payment portal.
-
After successful payment, students should proceed to the Bursary Department to obtain a stamped receipt as evidence of payment. This receipt must be attached to the transfer application form.
Step 2: Collection of Transfer Form
-
With the stamped payment receipt, students should visit the Office of the Registrar to collect the official Inter/Intra Faculty Transfer Form.
-
The form contains personal details, academic record information, current department and faculty details, and the preferred new programme of study.
Step 3: Completion and Departmental Approval
-
Applicants must accurately fill out the form and submit it to their current Head of Department (HOD) for processing.
-
The HOD will review the student’s academic performance, CGPA, and conduct, then make a recommendation to the Departmental and Faculty Boards.
-
The form will also be reviewed by the receiving department to ensure that the applicant meets the course requirements and that space is available.
Step 4: Final Approval by the University Senate
-
Once the transfer has been endorsed by the relevant departments and faculties, the final approval lies with the University Senate — the highest academic decision-making body of FUOTUOKE.
-
The Senate Officer will then communicate the outcome of the application to each student officially.
-
Students must not assume that their transfer has been approved until they receive official notification from the Senate.
Important Warnings and Regulations
FUOTUOKE’s management has issued a number of important guidelines and cautions for students applying for transfer:
-
Approval is not automatic:
The fact that an application has been submitted does not mean that it will be approved. Each case is carefully evaluated on academic merit, availability of space, and departmental recommendation. -
Unauthorized transfers are prohibited:
No student should proceed to attend lectures, submit assignments, or register in a new department without official Senate approval. Doing so will result in disciplinary action and nullification of such registration. -
JAMB Regularization Requirement:
All successful applicants must regularize their new programme with JAMB before graduation. This is to ensure that their new course of study aligns with their official admission record in the JAMB database.
Why Students Apply for Transfers
The opportunity for transfer is one of the most student-friendly policies in FUOTUOKE. Many students choose to apply for transfer for reasons such as:
-
Discovery of New Interests:
Some students realize that their passion lies in a different field than the one they initially applied for during admission. -
Academic Strengths:
A student might perform better in courses outside their current programme and decide to move to an area that suits their natural academic strengths. -
Career Aspirations:
In certain cases, students find that their future career goals align more closely with a different department or faculty. -
Health or Personal Reasons:
Occasionally, health-related issues or personal challenges may require a student to transfer to a department with a lighter or more suitable workload. -
Departmental Re-structuring:
Rarely, university restructuring or course re-accreditation may prompt students to transfer to related programmes.
Benefits of the Transfer Policy
FUOTUOKE’s transfer policy provides numerous benefits to both students and the institution:
-
Academic Flexibility:
Students are not permanently locked into a single course. They can adjust their academic path based on performance and interest. -
Improved Academic Motivation:
When students study in areas they are passionate about, their performance and engagement improve significantly. -
Optimal Use of Resources:
Departments can balance enrolment by admitting students who truly desire to be in their programmes while reducing cases of course abandonment. -
Promotion of Institutional Integrity:
The structured process ensures that all transfers are approved transparently and based on merit, preventing favoritism or irregularities.
Advice for Applicants
Students who intend to apply for a transfer should keep the following tips in mind:
-
Consult Academic Advisors:
Before initiating the process, students are encouraged to meet with their academic advisers to discuss their decision, career implications, and academic readiness for the new course. -
Research the Target Department:
Understand the course content, workload, and requirements of the new department to avoid future regrets. -
Prepare Academically:
Some departments may request evidence of competence in certain prerequisite courses. Ensure that you have met those conditions before applying. -
Observe Deadlines:
Transfers are processed within a specific period. Late submissions will not be entertained, so students should begin early to avoid unnecessary stress. -
Maintain Good Conduct:
Discipline and academic diligence play a huge role in approval. Students with good academic records and positive recommendations from their current HOD have higher chances of success.
Conclusion
The Federal University Otuoke remains committed to providing a student-centered academic environment where learners can grow, explore, and achieve excellence. The opening of the Inter/Intra Faculty Transfer application reaffirms the university’s dedication to flexibility, fairness, and support for students’ academic development.
All interested students are therefore advised to strictly follow the official guidelines, maintain academic discipline, and ensure they meet all requirements before submitting their applications.
For further inquiries or clarifications, students may visit the Office of the Registrar or contact the Admissions and Records Unit during official working hours.

UNIVERSITY OF CALABAR (UNICAL) ISSUES IMPORTANT NOTICE ON ADMISSION EXERCISE FOR 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has officially announced the extension of its 2025/2026 undergraduate admission exercise, following a directive from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
This development was confirmed in an internal memorandum released by the Office of the Registrar on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, and signed by Dr. (Mrs.) Chukwuka I. Icha, Registrar of the University. According to the memo, the deadline for the ongoing admission process has been extended to Monday, November 17, 2025, allowing more qualified candidates the opportunity to secure admission into selected academic programmes offered by the University.
Reason for the Extension
The University management explained that the extension follows a directive from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the national body responsible for regulating admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
JAMB’s directive was aimed at ensuring that all universities have sufficient time to process and upload the details of eligible candidates, thereby maintaining a fair and transparent admission system across all institutions.
By extending the admission period, UNICAL seeks to accommodate candidates who were unable to complete their registration earlier and to fill available spaces in departments that still have openings for the 2025/2026 academic session.
Official Statement from the Registrar
In the official memo, the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Chukwuka I. Icha, urged all suitably qualified candidates who scored 150 and above in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to take advantage of this opportunity by forwarding their requests for admission into the programmes listed in the University’s official notice.
She further clarified that only the programmes specified in the memo are open for admission during this extension period, while all other departments have reached their admission quotas for the session.
“This extension provides an opportunity for eligible candidates to be considered for admission into the University of Calabar. Only the programmes listed below are open for application at this time,” the Registrar stated.
Programmes Available for Admission
The University of Calabar has opened admission opportunities in the following faculties and departments:
-
Faculty of Agriculture
The Faculty of Agriculture offers a variety of programmes designed to equip students with scientific and technical knowledge for advancing Nigeria’s agricultural productivity and food security. -
Faculty of Education
This faculty prepares competent educators and educational administrators who are trained to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s educational development and research. -
Department of Religious and Cultural Studies
The department provides students with an in-depth understanding of religion, philosophy, and cultural systems, fostering interfaith dialogue and moral development. -
Department of Modern Languages and Translation Studies
This department trains students in French, German, and other international languages while emphasizing translation, communication, and cross-cultural competence. -
Department of Mathematics
The Mathematics department offers rigorous academic training in pure and applied mathematics, developing analytical and problem-solving skills essential in research, technology, and data science. -
Department of Statistics
The Statistics department focuses on data analysis, modeling, and interpretation—skills highly relevant in today’s data-driven economy and research environment.
The Registrar also emphasized that programmes not listed in the announcement are currently not available for admission, as their admission processes have already been concluded.
Who Is Eligible
All candidates who:
-
Participated in the 2025 UTME conducted by JAMB,
-
Scored a minimum of 150 marks, and
-
Selected the University of Calabar as their first choice institution,
are encouraged to apply for admission under the extended window.
Candidates who did not initially choose UNICAL as their first choice can also participate, provided they effect a change of institution through the JAMB CAPS portal before submitting their admission request.

Why This Extension Matters
The University of Calabar remains one of Nigeria’s most sought-after institutions due to its long-standing tradition of academic excellence, research innovation, and vibrant student life.
By extending the admission deadline, UNICAL demonstrates its commitment to providing equitable access to higher education and supporting the aspirations of thousands of young Nigerians seeking quality university education.
The management highlighted that this development aligns with the Federal Government’s vision to increase university enrollment and expand access to tertiary education across the nation.
A Call for Early Action
Candidates are strongly advised not to wait until the final days of the extension period to complete their application. Early submission ensures sufficient time for verification, correction of potential errors, and confirmation of eligibility before the final deadline on Monday, November 17, 2025.
Failure to complete the admission process within this timeframe may result in forfeiture of the opportunity for the current academic session.
The University also cautioned applicants to avoid engaging with unauthorized individuals or websites claiming to facilitate admission. All legitimate information and application procedures are to be accessed only through the University’s official communication channels.
Commitment to Transparency and Excellence
UNICAL reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection in all admission processes. The University has maintained a reputation for academic distinction, producing graduates who excel in leadership, research, and community service both within and outside Nigeria.
The institution continues to strengthen its academic programmes, infrastructure, and faculty capacity to meet global standards of teaching and learning.

FEDERAL UNIVERSITY, WUKARI (FUWUKARI) REOPENS ADMISSION PORTAL FOR 2025/2026 ACADEMIC SESSION
The management of the Federal University Wukari (FUWUKARI) has officially announced the reopening of its Post-UTME (PUTME) Online Screening Portal for the 2025/2026 academic session.
This decision comes as a relief to several candidates who, for various reasons, were unable to complete their online screening registration during the initial period that ended on 30th September 2025. The reopening of the portal provides another opportunity for such candidates to finalize their registration process and remain eligible for admission consideration into the prestigious institution.
Official Announcement from the Registrar
According to an official statement issued by the Registrar, Mr. Usman M. Sani, the University Management reached this decision after reviewing reports that indicated some genuine applicants encountered technical or logistical difficulties while attempting to complete their PUTME registration earlier in the year.
The statement emphasized the University’s commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and inclusiveness in its admission processes, noting that no qualified candidate should be unfairly disadvantaged due to circumstances beyond their control.
“After due consideration, the University Management has approved the reopening of the PUTME screening portal to enable affected candidates to complete their registration. This decision aligns with our institutional values of fairness and equity in admission,” the Registrar stated.
Reopening Dates and Access Information
The PUTME screening portal will officially reopen on Monday, 3rd November 2025, and remain accessible until Monday, 10th November 2025.
During this period, all eligible candidates who were unable to register earlier are strongly encouraged to visit the University’s official portal at www.fuwukari.edu.ng to complete their registration.
Candidates are advised to ensure the accuracy of all personal and academic information provided on the portal, as any incorrect or inconsistent data may affect their admission eligibility.

The affected programmes are:
-
Medicine and Surgery
-
Medical Laboratory Science
-

-
Political Science
The University stated that these departments have already finalized their admission processes based on the available quota approved by the relevant accrediting bodies. As such, further applications into these programmes will not be entertained.
Candidates who are still interested in securing admission into the University are encouraged to explore other programmes where vacancies exist. The Registrar reiterated that the University’s aim is to fill all available spaces strictly on merit and in accordance with the admission guidelines approved by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Important Notice to All Applicants
The University’s management has emphasized that the reopened window is strictly for candidates who were unable to register previously. Any candidate who fails to complete the registration within the stipulated period—between 3rd and 10th November 2025—will no longer be considered for admission.
The Registrar, Mr. Usman M. Sani, also warned against the use of unauthorized agents or cyber-cafés who may exploit unsuspecting candidates. Applicants are therefore advised to make use of only accredited registration centers or carry out the process personally through the official website.
“Candidates must beware of fraudulent individuals who claim to have influence over admission processes. The University’s admission exercise remains transparent, merit-based, and strictly in line with JAMB and Federal Government guidelines,” the statement added.
Advice to Candidates Applying for Change of Programme
For candidates who initially applied for any of the programmes where admission has been concluded—such as Medicine, Law, or Microbiology—but still wish to gain admission into FUWUKARI, the University encourages them to initiate a Change of Programme through the JAMB portal before proceeding with registration.
This ensures that their data aligns with the new programme of choice, making them eligible for consideration during the next admission phase. The University emphasized that only candidates whose JAMB details match the programme applied for on the FUWUKARI portal will be processed for admission.
Commitment to Transparency and Quality Education
Federal University Wukari reaffirmed its mission to uphold the highest academic standards and maintain integrity in all its operations. The reopening of the PUTME portal demonstrates the institution’s responsiveness to candidates’ needs and its dedication to providing equal opportunities for all prospective students.
Over the years, FUWUKARI has established itself as one of Nigeria’s fast-growing universities, attracting students from across the nation due to its emphasis on academic excellence, discipline, and community development.
The management reiterated that the University remains committed to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally upright and innovative in their respective fields.
