The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and Federal Government has reached an agreement to integrate the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). following the meeting between the two parties yesterday.

The IPPIS is the government’s accountability software that has been made compulsory for all public institutions, mainly for personnel payroll. ASUU is opposed to the use of IPPIS for lecturers saying it does not consider some of the peculiar operations of universities. The lecturers’ union then developed its own UTAS which it wants the government to adopt for universities.

The outcome of the meeting was made known by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, after a four-hour meeting between both parties.

Mr Ngige said the two parties will reconvene on Monday after the ASUU delegation deliberates with its National Executive Council (NEC).

When contacted, the National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, said the National Executive Committee of the union will review the conditions for the integration of UTAS into IPPIS.

“From the discussion we had, we have agreed that we will go and consult. We cannot pronounce on the proposals that came up until we consult with our members. We will leave it there for now.” He stated.

When asked if the strike would be suspended, the ASUU president said he could not make any pronouncement until he consulted with other members.

Some pupils of a primary school in Abuja have gone viral on social media with their campaign strategy for their school’s Student Union Government election.

Twitter user, Brian who shared photos of the pupils’ campaign banners revealed that one of the prospective candidates bought a water dispenser for the school, while another pupil took the campaign to a radio station

National President of the union Biodun Ogunyemi made the declaration after ASUU National Executive Council meeting in Enugu. NEC resolved to embark on two weeks warning strike action with effect from Monday 9th March 2020, to compel the Government to implement the agreement and resolution,” Ogunyemi said.

This was made know by the National President of ASUU Professor Biodun Ogunyemi at the end of the National Executive Council meeting(NEC) held at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

It was also gathered that the warning strike is equally connected to the decision of the federal government to stop salaries of lecturers who have not enrolled in the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).

603 results cancelled over exam malpractices………………

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board on Wednesday released the results of the November-December 2019 examinations

Thirty-two thousand three hundred and forty-nine, 32,349 candidates representing 72.91% who sat for National Business Certificate/ National Technical Certificate examinations obtained scores with five credit and above including Mathematics and English language.

A total of 40,605 candidates representing 91.52% scored five credits and above with or without English language and Mathematics

Registrar/ Chief Executive of the Board, Professor Ifeoma Isiugo Abanihe said the candidates’ performance was basically same with the 2018 results where 29,274 candidates representing 72.79% obtained five credit and above including English language and Mathematics

She said a total of 50,040 candidates consisting of 30,047 males, 19,993 females registered for the examination with 1,775 centres while 5,139 enrolled for Master crafts, 8,762 Ordinary crafts, 36,139, Ordinary Level General Certificate in Education

She posited that via quality assurance mechanisms the board recorded a slight reduction in examination malpractices with 603 candidates which represents 1.22% caught in the act when compared to the 625 figures in 2018

‘’ The board will continue to make efforts through more aggressive training of examination personnel and use of technology to further checkmate examination fraud.’’

Abanihe who stressed the role of Technical, Vocational Education Training in preparing the youths and adult alike for the labour market, called for the establishment of more federal science and technical colleges while ensuring existing ones are adequately equipped

A corps member serving with the Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Katsina, Katsina State, has allegedly raped one of the students of the school. The student, a teenager in JSS 1, was allegedly raped by the corps member at the accommodation provided for serving corps member in the school.

The school, an all-girls institution, formerly known as Women Teachers College (WTC), is located in the heart of the state capital. It was learnt that the girl had visited the Corper’s Lodge.

Sources at the school said authorities of the institution and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) met yesterday at the principal’s office where the corps member was invited for questioning. Spokesman for the NYSC in the state, Mr. Alex Obemeata, was yet to respond to inquiry made on the issue as at time of this report.

A student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, identified as Oboh Emmanuel has reportedly ended his life yesterday 24th of February, 2020.

According to reports gathered by Caampusinfo. The student,popularly known among his peers as “biggy”,drank a poisonous substance to put an end to his life because of reasons related to academics.

It is worthy of note that Oboh Emmanuel is the third OAU student to commit suicide in the space of just twelve months. We at Campusinfo sympathize with his family, friends and the general OAU community. We enjoin students not to think about suicide as an option at all , it isn’t a way out of depression, instead, they should consult trained personnels in guidance and counselling, psychotherapy and psychology fields .
