Oftentimes, young graduates complain about having to go for the one year compulsory service in Nigeria and many of them only join the program reluctantly. However, rather than complain and waste the year away, some other people have decided to make a mark in the society they were posted to. Perhaps this is one of the things the government had in mind for the scheme to achieve. Iyanuoluwa’s kind act to the Pila community did not go unnoticed and she was rewarded by the people with an equally touching gesture. An Ikeja High Court on Thursday sentenced a former part-time lecturer in the University of Lagos, Akin Baruwa, to 21 years imprisonment for raping an 18-year-old admission-seeker.
Justice Josephine Oyefeso, while sentencing Baruwa, described his action as heinous.
Oyefeso held that the sentence should serve as a deterrent to others.
She said, “The offence committed against this young lady was a violation of her chastity which would have left huge emotional scars from which I pray and hope she will recover.
“I cannot begin to imagine the physical and mental trauma she has had to endure from the man whom she considered her father’s friend, a community leader who should have known better. This is a shame.
“This is a crime that not only offends the survivor, it offends her family, it offends the society at large, it also offends God.
“I find you Baruwa Afeez Akin guilty of a one-count of rape contrary to Section 258(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011, and I hereby convict you accordingly.
“In line with Section 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2011, Baruwa Afeez Akin is hereby sentenced to 21 years imprisonment.”

The University Management has observed with displeasure that students have a poor attitude to the use of Library, especially with regards to the borrowing of library materials.
At the Breakfast Meeting of the University Management Team with the Students’ leaders , held recently, issues bothering on poor usage of Library by students were discussed and it was noted that :
(1) Students were not forthcoming to loan books from the Library;
(2) Students were not putting to use the opportunity to borrow books as provided for , by the University Management;
(3) The University Librarian had indicated the Library’s readiness to give out two(2) books on loan to students per week, and failure to refund the books within the stipulated time would attract sanction(s) , as appropriate.
Against the background, students of the University are hereby advised to cultivate the consistent use of the University Library as well as the practice of book-borrowing from the Library, more so as the University Library has expressed interest in loaning out books to interested students.

A Corper by name Saeed Olakunle who posted to Nsit ibom, in Akwa Ibom state has been reported mad after allegedly flogging a student in class for not participating properly in his mathematics class.

Days after two students of Ogbogbo Baptist Grammar School were arrested by men of the special anti-robbery squad over alleged rape and robbery of a youth corper, the students identified as Bamidele Ayeni and Isiaka Akanji have revealed why they engaged in such act. Campusinfo learnt that the incident reportedly occurred on the 13th Of February 2020 at about 7:30pm when the victim was returning from a church service at Ijari. It was further learnt that Bamidele and Isiaka were said to have written series of letters to the youth corper threatening she will be dealt with someday.

Revealing why the young corper was raped, the suspects confessed that the youth corper likes spending so much time in class, she doesn’t allow us go on break time and she is fond of reporting us to the principal whenever she feels like.

The suspects stopping attending classes after they committed the crime and they were arrested at different locations. According to local reports, the students were also members of a secret cult which they later admitted, saying they were both initiated 4 months ago by a person name igimu. He further said, they were promised higher position if they could kill at least 2 people. Reacting on the incident, the officer in charge, CP Yomi Adamson said that the suspects will be charged to court after thorough investigation.

Adegboye Olatunji, the embattled president of the Student Union Government (SUG), Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State has blamed his arrest on spiritual manipulation.

He claimed on Tuesday that he was charmed by unidentified cultists and was taken into the bush for initiation without him knowing what was happening.

Adegboye said he was on his way to the church when he lost his consciousness and found himself in the bush with some cultists before he was arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command.

He said this at the command headquarters in Eleweran during a parade of 77 suspected criminals, including Adegboye, for crimes ranging from cultism and robbery to murder and assault.

Adegboye said, “I am not a cult member. I don’t know how I got into the bush. I was charmed, I don’t know how it happened.

“I was going to the church around 7am on Sunday. I was going to a church in llaro. My rector also goes to that church and he hates anything cultism.”

While expressing disappointment over the way he was treated by the school authority, Adegboye said, “They didn’t fight for me because they didn’t make the proper findings.”

Adegboye was arrested on Sunday with one Olanrewaji Taiwo for alleged involvement in cultism.

The school management promptly suspended Adegboye and was later impeached by the Students Representative Council of the institution.

The state Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, who paraded the suspects, however, said Adegboye was caught red-handed.

Ebrimson said, “He was apprehended in his regalia and we have refused to let him pull it off, so that he doesn’t deny.”

The commissioner said he had confessed to the crime.

But Adegboye said, “I don’t know anything about this; I’m not a member. I didn’t confess anything. They searched my room; they didn’t find anything.”

When the other suspect, Olanrewaju, who was arrested alongside Adegboye, was asked whether he knew Adegboye or not, he said he had never seen him before their arrests.

He said, “I am not a cultist, I have never seen him (Adegboye) before we were brought here. Someone called me on the telephone and that was all. I don’t know how I got to the bush.”
