EndSARS campaigner and social media influencer, Rinu Oduala, has mourned Yusuf Nurudeen, a graduate of Lagos State University, who was robbed and shot to death on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old worded her eulogy in a three-part tweet on Friday.

“You were one of the few radical student activists I know,” Rinu hailed.

In the face of arrests, disciplinary committees, you never stopped standing up for student rights. They didn’t stop either, until they made sure you are dead. LASU failed you. Nigeria failed you, like many others.”

The PUNCH reported earlier that Nurudeen, popularly known as ‘Omomeewa’, was robbed around the university’s Ojo campus, along the LASU-Iba Road.

The PUNCH reported earlier that Nurudeen, popularly known as ‘Omomeewa’, was robbed around the university’s Ojo campus, along the LASU-Iba Road.

The deceased, Nurudeen, was a human rights activist and also a graduate of Lagos State University.

In 2019, he graduated from the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education, but was yet to receive his certificate or proceed to his NYSC programme due to an ongoing disciplinary case — ‘admission racketeering’, among others — that he was facing in the university.

The university published a statement on Friday, where it commiserated with the deceased’s family and friends and the LASU student community, before promising that “the university security department is working with the security agencies to investigate the sad incident with the aim of bringing the perpetrators to book.”

Oduala, a student of Lagos State University, studying Chemistry, was a leading face during the #EndSARS protests which rocked the country in October 2020, and was among those who had their bank account frozen by the Central Bank of Nigeria for their alleged role in the nation-wide, youth-centric protests.

She was also listed as a member of the Lagos State Judiciary Panel of Inquiry on police brutality after the Lekki Tollgate shooting of October 20, 2020.
