FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES, IYIN-EKITI (FUTES-IYIN) GETS NUC FULL APPROVAL FOR ADDITIONAL ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
The National Universities Commission has approved three additional academic programmes for the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin-Ekiti (FUTES-IYIN).
The approval, conveyed in a letter dated 11th September 2026, covers Artificial Intelligence, Telecommunication Science, and Tourism & Hospitality Management.
The development followed a resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC at the University on August 27, 2026, during which the Commission’s team assessed the facilities, personnel and other resources available for the programmes.
The approval also comes as the University prepares for its second academic session, with the admission portal reopened to enable prospective students who meet the requirements for the newly approved programmes to participate in the ongoing admission exercise.
Speaking on the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, said the approved programmes were designed to respond to emerging national and global needs while complementing the University’s technological and environmental mandate.
Aribisala said the University was not seeking to expand its academic offerings merely for the sake of increasing the number of students, but would prioritise relevance, quality and alignment with the vision of the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor also said the University had deliberately worked towards providing the human and physical resources required to support the programmes, stressing that the expansion of academic offerings would not come at the expense of quality.
With the Commission’s approval now secured, the three programmes are set to broaden opportunities for prospective students seeking training in some of the rapidly evolving areas of technology, communication, artificial intelligence, tourism and hospitality.
Prospective applicants are advised to visit the FUTES-IYIN Admission Portal at portal.futes.edu.ng/apply and read all registration guidelines and instructions carefully before proceeding with their applications.
The University had earlier commenced its 2026/2027 admission exercise, with the screening registration subsequently closed after the initial application period.
The reopening is specifically targeted at prospective candidates who wish to take advantage of the newly approved programmes and will run for one week, from Tuesday, October 6, to Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Prospective candidates are also required to effect a change of institution to FUTES-IYIN, as well as a change of programme to any of the newly approved programmes on the JAMB CAPS as part of the admission process.
Candidates are therefore advised to complete their applications and the necessary JAMB change-of-institution/programme process within the stipulated period, as the admission portal will close at the end of the one-week window.
The University had earlier completed its first academic year, with the management continuing to strengthen its academic, administrative and infrastructural structures ahead of the new session.
