MCPHERSON UNIVERSITY APPOINTS PROF. KENNETH NWOKO AS DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Governing Council of McPherson University has approved the appointment of Professor Kenneth Chukwuemeka Nwoko as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the university. The appointment is a reflection of the university’s confidence in his academic excellence, administrative competence, and years of dedicated service to the institution.

Professor Nwoko is a Professor of History and International Relations in the Department of History and International Studies, McPherson University. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in History, as well as his Master’s and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in History and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos. His teaching and research interests include Peace and Conflict Studies, African Cultural History, International Relations, and Ethnic and Gender Studies.

A prolific scholar, Professor Nwoko has authored over sixty publications in reputable local and international journals and edited volumes. He began his academic career at the University of Lagos as a Teaching Assistant and Graduate Fellow before joining Redeemer’s University as a lecturer between 2009 and 2012.

Professor Nwoko joined McPherson University in 2012 as a Senior Lecturer and pioneer Acting Head of the Department of History and Diplomatic Studies, a position he held until 2018. Through dedication and scholarly distinction, he rose through the academic ranks to become the first Professor in the Department of History and International Studies. He also served as Dean of the College of Humanities and later as the first substantive Dean of the College of Postgraduate Studies from 2022 to 2024.

In addition to his academic and administrative contributions, Professor Nwoko has received several prestigious fellowships and research grants from notable international institutions, including the Social Science Research Council, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, the British Library, and Université Grenoble Alpes. He has also served on accreditation panels for the National Universities Commission and as external examiner to several universities across Nigeria.

Professor Kenneth Nwoko is widely regarded as an accomplished scholar and experienced administrator whose contributions have positively impacted teaching, research, and institutional development at McPherson University.
