Eid-el-Kabir 2026: FG Announces Two-Day Public Holiday in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, 27th May and Thursday, 28th May, 2026 as public holidays to commemorate the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and confirmed in an official press release signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on 25th May, 2026.

According to the statement, the declaration reflects the Federal Government’s respect for the Islamic faith and recognition of the spiritual significance of Eid-ul-Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.

The government congratulated Muslim faithful in Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing Eid-ul-Adha as a sacred festival that promotes the values of sacrifice, obedience to God, compassion, and love for humanity.

Nigerians were also encouraged to use the holiday period for prayers and reflection, seeking divine guidance for continued peace, security, unity, and national prosperity.

The Federal Government further wished Muslims a peaceful, blessed, and joyful Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
