NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY, SOKOTO (NWUS) ANNOUNCES APPROVED CUT-OFF MARKS FOR THE 2026/2027 ACADEMIC SESSION

The management of Northwest University Sokoto (NWUS) has officially released the approved institutional cut-off marks for admission into its diverse array of undergraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session. This announcement serves as a critical guide for prospective candidates who sat for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and are seeking to further their education at this institution.

​According to an official statement released by the Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol, Abdallah el-Kurebe, the Admission Unit has carefully pegged these scores to maintain the university’s standard of academic excellence while ensuring equitable access to quality education.

​Tiered Admission Standards

​The university has adopted a tiered scoring system that reflects the competitive nature and professional requirements of various disciplines. While the baseline for the majority of the university’s academic offerings has been set at a reachable level, professional and health-related courses carry a higher threshold due to their rigorous training demands and limited carrying capacity.

​General Programmes: For a wide range of courses within the humanities, social sciences, and basic sciences, the cut-off mark has been fixed at 150. This allows a broad spectrum of qualified candidates the opportunity to participate in the upcoming post-UTME screening exercise.

​Medical and Professional Courses: In line with the institution’s commitment to producing high-caliber health professionals, specialized courses attract significantly higher scores.

​Medicine and Surgery (MBBS): This remains the most competitive programme at Northwest University Sokoto, with the cut-off mark fixed at 200. Candidates aspiring for this field must meet this highest institutional requirement to stay in contention for admission.

​The Director, Abdallah el-Kurebe, emphasized that meeting the institutional cut-off mark is the first step in the admission process. He noted that these benchmarks were established following the guidelines provided by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for the 2026/2027 session.
