UNIVERSITY OF UYO (UNIUYO) RESCHEDULES EXAMINATIONS OVER SALLAH BREAK.

The Management of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), through the Office of the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Dianabasi Eduwem, has formally ratified a strategic adjustment to the first-semester examination schedules for both the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions. This administrative intervention, detailed in an internal memorandum dated March 18, 2026, is a direct response to the Federal Government’s declaration of public holidays on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, in observance of Eid-el-Fitr.

By decoupling these assessments from the holiday window, the university is ensuring that students and staff can participate in the national celebrations without compromising the integrity or logistical flow of the examination diet.

The Bifurcated Rescheduling Model: CBT vs. Non-CBT

The university has adopted a “Differentiated Scheduling Logic” to manage the resumption of exams. This approach accounts for the specific infrastructure requirements of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) versus traditional pen-and-paper (Non-CBT) assessments.

I. Non-CBT (Paper-Based) Examinations

Traditional examinations previously slated for the Eid holidays have been moved to the immediate start of the following week. This allows for a swift conclusion of faculty-based assessments.

  • Original Date: Thursday, March 19, 2026 $\rightarrow$ New Date: Monday, March 30, 2026

  • Original Date: Friday, March 20, 2026 $\rightarrow$ New Date: Tuesday, March 31, 2026

II. CBT (Computer-Based) Examinations

To ensure stable server performance and avoid congestion at the university’s e-learning centers, the CBT assessments have been pushed further into April. This buffer period allows the ICT directorate to recalibrate the testing environment following the holiday break.

  • Original Date: Thursday, March 19, 2026 $\rightarrow$ New Date: Thursday, April 2, 2026

  • Original Date: Friday, March 20, 2026 $\rightarrow$ New Date: Friday, April 3, 2026

Administrative Directives and Compliance

Prof. Dianabasi Eduwem’s memorandum emphasizes that these changes are mandatory and must be integrated into the departmental invigilation rosters immediately.

  1. Faculty Oversight: Deans and Heads of Departments (HODs) are directed to ensure that all invigilators are aware of the new dates to prevent “venue abandonment” or synchronization errors.

  2. Student Preparedness: The university urges students to utilize the holiday break—and the subsequent week leading up to the new dates—for intensive revision. The extension should be viewed as an opportunity to enhance academic performance rather than a total cessation of study.

  3. ICT Coordination: For the CBT participants, the Directorate of ICT is tasked with updating the digital examination slips and ensuring that the login credentials for the affected sessions remain valid for the new April dates.

Impact on the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 Sessions

The fact that this memo addresses two different sessions simultaneously indicates a highly complex logistical operation.

  • For the 2024/2025 Cohort: This represents the final push toward completing their first-semester requirements. Any further delay would impact the commencement of the second semester.

  • For the 2025/2026 Cohort: As fresh or returning students in a new session, this rescheduling sets the tone for the university’s commitment to an organized and flexible academic calendar.

Conclusion: A Synchronized Return to Academic Rigor

The University of Uyo’s proactive rescheduling for the March 2026 Eid-el-Fitr break demonstrates an agile administrative framework that respects national traditions while safeguarding academic standards. By clearly separating CBT and Non-CBT dates, the management is minimizing the risk of logistical bottlenecks and ensuring a smooth conclusion to the examination season.

Students are strongly advised to keep their institutional identity cards and original examination slips ready for the rescheduled dates, as all other examination protocols remain strictly in force.
