Following the 65th meeting of the University Senate on Monday, 9th March 2026, Northwest University Kano has officially ratified the academic schedule for the 2025/2026 session. Released by the Public Relations Unit under the authority of the Registrar, this calendar provides a structured timeline for registration, pedagogical instruction, and statutory assessments. The schedule is designed to maximize student engagement while ensuring administrative efficiency across all undergraduate faculties.

The Enrollment and Induction Phase (March – May 2026)

The academic year initiates with a staggered registration process designed to manage the digital and physical traffic of the student body. Fresh students are granted a two-week window starting Monday, 23rd March 2026, to complete their biometric and credential clearances. Returning students follow with a high-intensity one-week registration period beginning Monday, 20th April 2026.

This phase culminates in two essential institutional rites:

  • Matriculation (Tuesday, 28th April): The formal legal induction where new students subscribe to the University Oath.

  • Orientation (30th April – 9th May): A 10-day immersive program designed to bridge the gap between secondary education and the university’s entrepreneurial and academic culture.

First Semester Instructional Cycle and Assessments

The first semester is divided into two distinct teaching blocks, separated by a mid-semester recess to prevent academic burnout and allow for a review of course materials.

Activity Start Date End Date Duration
Lectures (Part 1) Monday, 11th May Saturday, 20th June 6 Weeks
Mid-Semester Break Monday, 22nd June Saturday, 27th June 1 Week
Lectures (Part 2) Monday, 29th June Saturday, 8th August 6 Weeks
Examinations Monday, 10th August Saturday, 29th August 3 Weeks

Students are granted a one-week break immediately following the conclusion of examinations on 29th August 2026, providing a brief window for faculty to begin result processing before the second semester commences.

Second Semester Dynamics and Session Conclusion

The second semester maintains the momentum of the first but introduces the Add/Drop Period (14th – 19th September). This critical administrative window allows students to adjust their course loads based on their first-semester performance or changes in academic interest.

The instructional phase continues through September and October, pausing for a mid-semester break from 19th to 24th October. The final teaching block (Part 2) runs for five weeks, leading directly into the Second Semester Examinations, which are scheduled from 30th November to 19th December 2026.

Transition to the 2026/2027 Academic Session

The 2025/2026 session officially concludes on Saturday, 19th December 2026. Following this, the university community enters a significant 12-week vacation period. This extended break is strategically utilized by the institution for:

  • Comprehensive result computation and Senate approval.

  • Infrastructural maintenance and laboratory upgrades.

  • Academic staff research and curriculum review.

The university is scheduled to reopen for the 2026/2027 Academic Session on Monday, 8th March 2027.

Administrative Directives for Students

The Registrar’s office emphasizes that all public holidays falling within these dates must be observed in accordance with Federal Government announcements. Students are advised to:

  1. Adhere to Deadlines: Registration portals will close automatically at the end of the stipulated weeks.

  2. Monitor Portals: Course registration and Add/Drop actions must be finalized within the specified dates to avoid complications with result processing.

  3. Plan for Exams: The three-week examination windows are intensive; students should align theirstudy schedules with the “Part 1” and “Part 2” lecture blocks.Northwest University Kano Academic Calendar, 2025/2026
