The University of Abuja, now known as Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, has announced the commencement of applications for postgraduate programmes in the College of Health Sciences for the 2025/2026 academic session.

According to the notice, the programmes are being offered through the Institute of Reproductive Health (IRH) in collaboration with the Institute of Medical Sciences Africa (IMSA). The institutions are inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for several specialized medical and laboratory science programmes aimed at advancing training and research in reproductive health and related fields.

Available Programmes

Interested applicants can apply for the following postgraduate programmes:

• Master of Science (MSc) in Reproductive Physiology and Assisted Reproductive Technology

• Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Embryology

• Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Andrology

• Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Cryopreservation of Gametes and Embryos

• Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

These programmes are designed to equip medical professionals and scientists with advanced knowledge and practical skills in reproductive medicine, laboratory techniques, and assisted reproductive technologies.

Admission Requirements

Applicants seeking admission into the postgraduate programmes must meet the following requirements:

Candidates must possess five credit passes in relevant O’Level subjects, including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. These credits must be obtained in not more than two sittings in examinations such as WASC, NECO, or GCE.

In addition, candidates must hold an MBBS degree with a minimum of four years post-qualification experience. Applicants are also required to be registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

Preference will be given to candidates who have already completed Part 1 or Part 2 of the National Postgraduate Medical College or the West African College of Surgeons, particularly those currently practicing in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

However, the university noted that the programmes are not limited only to medical doctors. Graduates with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in natural sciences, laboratory sciences, or BMLS are also eligible to apply for the IRH programmes.

Application Process and Fees

The application fee for the postgraduate programmes is a non-refundable fee of ₦50,000. Interested candidates are required to make payment to the University of Abuja account through REMITA using the official university portal at:

Applicants are advised to carefully complete their online application forms and ensure that all required documents are properly uploaded during the application process.

Important Deadline

The university has set Thursday, April 30, 2026 as the deadline for submission of all applications. Candidates are therefore encouraged to complete their applications before the closing date to avoid missing the opportunity.

Important Instructions for Applicants

Prospective applicants are required to process a Transcript Request (Form A2) through the application portal. Evidence that the request has been made must be submitted together with other application documents.
