The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) wishes to inform all graduands and members of the university community that the University Administration has approved the convocation charges to be paid by all categories of graduands for the upcoming 49th Convocation Ceremony.

This important announcement concerns all students who have successfully completed their academic programmes and are due to participate in the convocation ceremony scheduled for the 2025 academic year.

Approved Convocation Charges

The approved fees for the convocation ceremony are as follows:

• Diploma Graduands: ₦30,000.00

• Bachelor’s Degree Graduands: ₦40,000.00

• Postgraduate Diploma, Masters, and MPhil Graduands: ₦45,000.00

• Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Graduands: ₦60,000.00

All payments are to be made through the University’s e-Portal under the section labeled “Convocation Dues.”

Graduands are strongly advised to make their payments early to avoid last-minute delays and ensure they can access their convocation materials in good time.

Important Notice to PhD Graduands

PhD graduands are specially informed that the University has a limited number of PhD gowns, caps, and hoods available for use.

Because of this limited supply, those who wish to own a personal academic gown (that is, to buy instead of borrow) can purchase the full PhD academic gown set at the cost of ₦50,000.00 (Fifty Thousand Naira only).

Graduands interested in purchasing their own PhD gowns should make payment to the designated Convocation Account as detailed below:

After payment, graduands must bring evidence of payment (such as a printed or digital bank receipt) to the appropriate office to collect their gowns.

Please note that the university will not issue a gown without proof of payment. PhD graduands are encouraged to make their decisions early to avoid disappointment, as quantities are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Collection of Convocation Materials

All graduands — including Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students — are required to present evidence of payment of convocation charges before collecting their convocation materials.

Convocation materials include items such as:

• Academic gowns and caps

• Convocation brochures or programmes

• Guest invitation cards (where applicable)

These materials will be distributed at each graduand’s respective Faculty or College Office. Graduands should ensure that their payments are fully completed and verified on the university portal before visiting their Faculties for collection.

Graduands are advised to keep all payment receipts safely, as they may be required for verification at various stages of the convocation process.

1. Visit the OAU e-Portal using your official student login details.

2. Navigate to the section titled “Convocation Dues.”

3. Select your appropriate category (Diploma, Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD).

4. Confirm the amount displayed matches the approved fee for your category.

5. Proceed to make payment using the available payment options (online banking, debit card, or bank transfer as provided).

6. Print your payment receipt or confirmation slip immediately after completing the transaction.

If you experience any issues during payment, you are advised to visit the university’s ICT help desk or the Bursary Department for assistance.

Additional Notes for Graduands

• Every graduand is expected to participate fully in the convocation activities as outlined by the University.

• Proper academic dressing (including gown, hood, and cap) is mandatory for entry into the convocation venue.

• Gowns should be kept neat and returned on time (where applicable) to avoid penalties.

• Graduands who fail to pay the approved convocation charges will not be allowed to take part in the ceremony or receive convocation materials.

• PhD graduands who purchase their gowns outright will not need to return them after the ceremony.
