Lagos State University has matriculated 7, 968 out of 21,626 applications for the 2019/2020 academic session.

Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Ojo, has advised the 7, 968 matriculating students of the institution to embrace the consequences of responsibility by contributing to the development of the institution.

Fagbohun gave the advice during the matriculation ceremony for the newly admitted students of the institution on Wednesday in Lagos.

The campusinfo reports that the matriculation was for the 2019/2020 academic session.

He said that their choice of LASU would help the matriculating students sow seeds of change and achieve the institution’s global development.

“We have rules at LASU on dressing, cultism and conducts, deviance from these rules can lead to accelerated graduation such as expulsion, dismissal and rustication.

“It is imperative that you acquaint yourselves with the student’s handbook,” Fagbohun said.

He said, “During the 2019/2020 admission screening exercise, we recorded 21,626 applications but we were only able to admit 7,968.

“Matriculating under any circumstances is a great achievement, so many overcame a lot to be here, navigated challenging classes and challenges outside the classroom.

“In the last four years and 10 months, LASU had undergone metamorphic changes that have guaranteed conducive learning, preparedness to take on global challenges and a stable academic calendar.

“These amongst many other things were achievable with the cooperation between management, staff and students,” the VC said.

Fagbohun said that the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 did not limit knowledge creation and community service of our great citadel of knowledge.

“The Faculty of Science massively and locally created hand sanitisers and face masks, the Faculty of Engineering designed an automated soap and sanitiser dispenser that is currently in use at the new senate building.

“I also implore parents and guardians to keep up with the wards; your support will go a long way in seeing them through life.

“I have a strong feeling for this moment knowing that this is the last set of candidates that I will conduct their matriculation as the 8th substantive Vice-Chancellor.

“Let me see you the matriculating students 10 years down the line and be proud of you,” he said.

Also speaking, Dr Abayomi Olumoko, Dean of Student Affairs, LASU said that the main objective of the matriculation ceremony was to acquaint the students with the fundamental principles, norms and culture of the institution.

Olumoko said that as a newly admitted student, you are expected to abide by all rules and regulations and participate in all activities of the university.

“You must be fully committed to your studies and justify your selection out of the thousands who wanted admission.

“At LASU, we have zero tolerance for any form of misconduct and we do not hesitate to sanction any student who gets involved in any vice.

“You are rest assured of adequate security on our campuses. Do not hesitate to report any suspicious activity that may stand in the path of your learning,” he said.
