Students beat up WAEC officials, break the head of journalist over social distancing inside examination hall
Students of a secondary school in Kukuratunmi, Eastern region of Ghana have reportedly assaulted officials of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) who were supervising the ongoing Senior School Certificate Examinations in the West African country. The name of the school is Bright Academy.
According to The BBC Ghana, an online news portal in the country, the angry students beat up some officials, injured some of them and destroyed their mobile phones. Their annoyance is that their supervision of the examination was too strict for them to bear.
It was gathered that the students were unhappy with the social distancing protocol which the invigilators insisted must be adhered to by the students.
Following the conduct of the students, all the officials sent to the school have escaped from the area but not without sustaining injuries from the unruly students. The report says police have been deployed to the school to restore normalcy.
Further reports by Atikannews.net revealed that a journalist from one of the nation’s newspapers who went to cover the incident was also beaten by the students on rampage.
He was accosted when he was seen taking videos of the incident.
It was a gathered that on seeing the danger ahead of him, he jumped unto a moving vehicle to run away. But the students continued hitting him, took his phones and his bag from him
