The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the release of over N290 million for Bursary and Local Scholarships to qualified beneficiaries in tertiary institutions across the country.

A release signed by the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Scholarship Board, Mr. Omotayo Fakolujo, stated that the prompt release of the award underscored the commitment of the State Government to sustaining the scholarship and bursary programme despite the economic situation in Nigeria.

According to him, “Mr. Governor is committed to ensuring that Lagosians are empowered, through education, to contribute productively to the local and global economies. The release of the funds demonstrates the priority the administration of the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu accords the education sector”.

While appreciating the State Government for release of the scholarship awards, Fakolujo opined that the present administration understands the pivotal role education plays in defining the socio-political development of the present time and the growth and advancement of the State.

Giving a breakdown of the payment, the Executive Secretary said the government released the sum of N137,825,091.46 for 599 for Local Scholarship beneficiaries, while the sum of N157, 093, 205.44 will be expended on 4,341 beneficiaries.

The Executive Secretary, however, advised subsequent beneficiaries of the awards to exercise patience as the necessary arrangements are being put in place to ensure hitch-free disbursement, adding that the beneficiaries will soon be invited to present themselves for documentation.
