All Candidates of Lagos State Origin who chose Lagos State University as First Choice in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) and scored a minimum of 190 are hereby informed that the registration for Indigeneship Verification Exercise for the 2021/2022 Admission Exercise will commence on Monday, 11th October, 2021 to close on Friday, 5th November, 2021. The Verification Interview will start on Wednesday, 20th October, 2021.

Please, NOTE that the Indigeneship Verification Exercise does not guarantee or serves as a proof of admission into the Lagos State University.

Kenneth Ibe, a 300 level law student of the Imo State University, Owerri, who was abducted by gunmen, has been killed.

The student, a native of Isiala Mbano local government area of the state was killed on Friday by his abductors and his body dumped along the road.

His friends took to Facebook to mourn him.

Chidiebube Okeoma, one of his kinsmen from Anara, described the killing as “dastardly ”

In a post, Okeoma said, “The killing of our brother from Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Kenneth Ibe, a three hundred law student of Imo state University today is most unfortunate.

“Those who live by sword will die by the sword. What a world. Just dimmed such a shining light. My heart bleeds,”

The police are yet to react to the incident as the police spokesman, CSP Mike Abattam was not available for comments.

AFIT Post-UTME 2021: Cut-off mark, Eligibility, Screening Dates and Registration Details

(i) Only UTME and JAMB DE candidates who selected AFIT, Kaduna as first choice are eligible for the screening exercise. Those who did not choose AFIT as first choice are required to change their first choice to AFIT to be eligible for registration.

(ii) UTME Candidates must have a minimum score of 140 for ND programme and 170 for degree programme.

(iii) All candidates must meet all the admission requirements stated on AFIT portal or JAMB Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS).

The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has appointed Mr Adewuyi Popoola as the new Bursar for the institution.

A statement issued by the University’s Director of Public Communication, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, made available to journalists on Monday, said the appointment has taken effect from Monday, 20 September 2021.

According to the statement: “Mr Popoola was born on 7 March 1964 in Ilora, Afijio Local Government Area, Oyo State Nigeria.”

After elementary education, he had his secondary school education at Ilora Baptist Grammar School, Ilora, Oyo State between 1975 and 1981.”

“The new Bursar holds Higher National Diploma (Accounting) from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Bachelor of Science (Accounting), in the First Class Division, from the Lead City University, Ibadan and the degree of Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Ibadan.

Mr. Popoola’s professional expertise has earned him honours and recognitions. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI).”

“An adroit manager of men and resources, the new Bursar, after a stint in private organisations as Accountant and Audit Manager joined the services of the University of Ibadan in 2000 as a Senior Accountant (Pension Office).”

Through the dint of hard work, he rose by merit to the position of Principal Accountant in 2005 and Chief Accountant in 2009. He was appointed the Deputy Bursar, Postgraduate School (now Postgraduate College) in 2014, Deputy Bursar (Finance) 2017, and the Deputy Bursar (Administration) 2019, a position he occupied till his new appointment”

“He attended many local and international conferences, workshops, and seminars. Suffice it to mention the International Executive Training on Management Leadership at IMSIMBI Training Centre Johannesburg, South Africa, which he attended in 2016, among others.”

The new Bursar is married and the union is blessed with wonderful children.”

“Mr. Popoola has since assumed duty,” the statement added.

The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, Dr. Michael Arimanwa has revealed the strategy the management employed in tackling cultism that had ravaged the institution in the recent past.

In a chat with journalists in Owerri, Arimanwa said the management engaged the indigenes of the host community as security men who he said knew the rampaging cultists.

According to him, the combined efforts of the indigenes and Department of State Security (DSS) and the police helped in nipping the cult activities in the bud.

He commended the police and DSS for being prompt is responding to distress calls from the institution.

Arimanwa said his administration has digitalized the institution, thereby making it a ‘smart campus’.

This, he maintained has help in tackling issues of extortion and exploitation of students, as virtually everything is now done online.

The rector submitted that he considers the facilitation of the employment of over 500 persons within three years as the biggest achievement of his administration.

According to him, it was the first time the institution would employ such number of persons within three years.

He held that the polytechnic by the employment, has taken such people off the streets and empowered families.

We facilitated the employment of over 500 persons within this period. I consider that the biggest achievement of my administration because it is the largest number the institution has employed within three years since its inception.

“We have taken people off the streets; we have empowered families because for everyone who is working, about four other persons are benefitting”, he stated.

The rector added that the institution has also facilitated the training of many members of its staff overseas and within the country to ensure optimum performance.

While a total of 40 students, according to him, have received scholarships from the management, efforts have also been put in place to ensure protection of students living off campus.

Arimanwa disclosed that the institution was making plans to affiliate with the Federal University of Technology Owerri to enable the students obtain degrees.

He recalled how the polytechnic made a breakthrough in manufacturing fully automated hand washing and drying machine last year at the outbreak of Covid-19.

After several weeks of non-communication between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) over the non-implementation by the federal government of the agreement it reached with the union last December, both parties have now agreed to meet next week.

The President of ASUU, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, gave this hint in an exclusive interview with Nigerian Tribune at the weekend when asked for the development.

He said the meeting which he didn’t give the exact date it would hold within the week would involve the leadership of the union and the representatives of the Federal Government.

He said the meeting was at the instance of both parties and would be held in Abuja.

It will be recalled that ASUU at different fora in the last few months and particularly after the expiration of its August deadline had been sensitising the public about its protracted contentious issues with the federal government threatening to embark on strike should the federal government continue to look other ways rather than honouring the last agreement it reached with the union since last December.

The agreement, it will be recalled, bothers on the provision of funds for the revitalisation of dilapidating infrastructure (hostel accommodation, befitting lecture theatres, state-of-the-art laboratories, good working environment for lecturers, and so forth), payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), arresting the trend of proliferation of state-owned universities while neglecting the funding of the existing ones and the renegotiation of 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement as well as forceful enrollment of ASUU members into the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) at the expense of the University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS).

It will also be recalled that the Federal Government had come public to have announced its approval of a certain amount of money since last December to meet part of the demands and upon which ASUU suspended its last industrial action that lasted nine months but with the government yet to release even only one kobo till today to the course.
