President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, launched the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP), a job placement scheme for graduates that have concluded the one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.⁣

⁣The internship program which is said to be fully paid and sponsored by the federal government in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the European Union (EU), is expected to last for 12 months, with an estimated 20,000 beneficiaries posted to reputable private and public sector organizations across the countries.⁣

According to President Buhari, the program is part of his administration’s strategy of creating employment opportunities for Nigerians and keeping Nigerian youths occupied with opportunities that will give provide relevant skills and work experience for the future.⁣

The NJFP beneficiaries will be deployed to a wide range of sectors including ICT, manufacturing, agriculture, mining, creative industries, education, health, research and development, and public sector institutions.⁣

He further encouraged all eligible Nigerians to apply for the program.

⁣⁣Private sector partners of the program also include BUA, Dangote, VISA Nigeria, Outsource Global, GE Gas, and Power, Lafarge Africa, SecureID, Microsoft, among others.

A fresh graduate of the Kaduna Polytechnic, Department of Hospitality Management has been confirmed dead days after her signing-out celebration.

The student identified as Faith Favour had taken to her Facebook page two weeks ago to share a photo of herself and coursemates celebrating the end of their final exams.

Her demise was announced by one of her coursemates, Mhister Isaac on Monday, August 30 but he didn’t give details.

He wrote;

Faith i can’t believe you are gone. With all the stress and difficulties we went through, u can’t even wait to finish your project or see your last result. Dead why….? Hmm. Faith #HOMSA love you but God love’s you most. May your gentle soul Rest In Perfect Peace” he wrote.

A total of 1,456 candidates who scored 300 and above out of the possible score of 400 in the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) failed to secure admission to Nigerian tertiary institutions for the 2020/2021 academic session.
The registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Is-haq Oloyede, made the disclosure in Abuja on Tuesday during the 2021 admission policy meeting where guidelines for admission processes for the 2021/2022 academic calendar were approved.

In his presentation at the meeting, which was tagged, “Titbits on 2020 admission and 2021 UTME,” Mr Oloyede said out of the 4,948 applicants who scored 300 and above, only 3,492 gained admissions into higher institutions, leaving out a total of 1,456 applicants stranded.

Meanwhile, about 52, 323 candidates scored between 250 and 299 in the same examination, out of which 22,580 candidates were also not admitted.
In the same vein, some 193,661 candidates out of 347,469 who scored between 200 and 249 were not offered admission.

The presentation also highlighted nine reasons why the high-performing candidates did not gain admission.

The registrar said the factors include applicants’ rigidity, that is when a candidate who wants a particular programme refuses to settle for anything else; wrong O’level subject combination; low post-UTME screening score; UTME-combination deficiency, and non-acceptance of the offer.

Other reasons are duplication of application, absence from post-UTME screening, mismatch of catchment institutions, and also where candidates fail to upload their O’level with five credits in the required subjects.
The 2020 figure of candidates who scored 300 and above but could not gain admission indicated a significant increase from that of 2019 which is about 679 candidates.

The management of the University of Ibadan (UI) has commenced the payment of acceptance fees for fresh students. Concerned students are advised to make payment before deadline.

The University Of Ibadan Acceptance fee is N37,500 only. This fee is meant for all new students. It does not matter if you are an indigene or not. All new students will pay the sum of Thirty seven thousand, five hundred naira only.

• All new students are to visit http://admissions.ui.edu.ng to pay their Acceptance Fee of N37,500 only. They can pay at the bank or online.
• After paying the acceptance fee, they should ensure they upload the following documents
• WAEC/NECO Scratch card with the pin No. and Serial No. clearly displayed
• Clear O’Level result

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have asked Nigerians to hold the Federal Government responsible for their next action on government’s failure to honour an agreement it signed with them.
ASUU spoke of a plan to hold an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) this week with its leaders and principal officials to decide its members’ next line of action.

The union said it will follow-up its NEC meeting with consultations with all its chapters should the government fail to implement its promises to his aggrieved lecturers.
ASUU’s latest threat followed the expiration of the August 31 deadline issued to the Federal Government to meet its demands.
The Federal Government has not spoken on the latest agitations by the varsity teachers.
Labour and Employment Dr. Chris Ngige again could be reached for reaction as the several calls placed to his mobile phone last night were not returned.
ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke said the NEC would convene to weigh available options and take a position.

The lecturers called off their eight-month strike in December last year after ASUU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government.
After several complaints of breach of agreement, the federal government team, led by Ngige, met with the lecturers on August 2 to review the level of implementation of the MoU.
Ngige said the Federal Government, through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will release N30 billion as revitalisation fund to universities the following week.

The Introduction of JAMB CAPS has made it mandatory that all admission must be through JAMB CAPS. Consequent upon the above, this is to inform all 2020/2021 Daily Part-Time students to go to JAMB office for registration in order for them to be properly admitted on JAMB CAPS.

Any student who fails to comply with this directive will not be able to regularise his/her admission and this can generate problems for him/her in future.

Strict compliance is enjoined.
