One thing you must know as an aspirant is that, when an institution says it’s cutoff mark is 100, that doesn’t mean you will be admitted with that score.

You scoring 100 in your UTME only enables you to purchase their post utme form, it doesn’t guarantee any course.

Yes, know that and know peace.

I have seen a lot of questions in my DM asking;

“Can a mark go for a certain course in a certain school?”

For instance; you are an aspirant and you are asking if you can go for accounting in fuoye with 160, simply because you heard or saw that fuoye’s cutoff is 160.

The answer is simple, if you can withstand it then don’t bother trying it to avoid stories that you touch the heart .

That 160 only gives you the opportunity to apply for the institution’s Postutme screening (fuoye in view), that doesn’t mean you would be admitted for the course you intend studying. That’s where departmental cutoff comes in (i.e the cutoff mark for each department in the Institution)

While there are some courses that would hold 160 as a threshold…

Permit me to say that (most of those courses aren’t the ones you guys have in mind)… let me stop here

So in a nutshell, your UTME score must be good enough to cross two hurdles,

1. The institutions general cutoff mark

2. Your department cutoff mark.

Once you cross this two without tripping off….

then you’re almost in but then comes your combinations.

When I say combinations, I’m talking about your O’level subjects and jamb subjects.

This stage is a tricky one in which you need a consultant to help you through, Google is good but when it comes to this look for someone who knows more.

… I mean an Educational consultant, because Google is not LEGIT when it comes to this stage.

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brig. Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim on Friday told corps members that only the service, not their employer has the right to grant them a travel permit to embark on any journey away from their place of primary assignment.

The DG stated this during his visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp MD Yusuf Complex, Mani Road, Katsina.

Ibrahim warned the corps members deployed to the state for the mandatory service not to flout the order or risk sanction by the NYSC bye-laws.

He explained that “it is only the NYSC State Coordinator that can permit Corps Members to travel while for any Corps Member who wishes to travel outside Nigeria, it is only the DG that can give permission for such journey.”

The Director-General also warned the corps members against embarking on night travelling just as he directed that “any Corps Member who is traveling and finds that the time is getting to 6 pm should stop going and report to the nearest police, DSS or Military station for shelter.”

He passionately appeals to Corps Members to adhere strictly to COVID-19 safety protocols and also ensure they are vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Report to the nearest health centre when you observe any symptom or signs of COVID-19 such as shortness of breath, excessive headache, dry cough, and weight loss,” DG Ibrahim however stated.

The Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa state, has reportedly released its cut-off mark for 2021 admission, putting at 110.

The Delta State Polytechnic has also released its cut-off mark for UTME candidates seeking admission at the institution.

Tertiary institutions are now individually deciding their cut-off marks following JAMB’s decision to cancel the national/general cut-off marks.

At least two Nigerian Polytechnics have released their cut-off marks for the 2021/2022 admission.

This follows the decision of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to cancel the national/general cut-off marks

The JAMB’s decision gave the tertiary institution in the country the freedom to set their own cut-off marks.

CAMPUS INFO GATHERED THAT  Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa and the Delta State Polytechnic have so far released their cut-off marks

For the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, the cut-off mark is 110.

However, Delta State Polytechnic’s cut-off mark is relatively a bit on the high side as candidates who chose the institution as the first or second choice must score 140 and above to be considered for admission.

Al-Hikmah University invites applications from prospective candidates to their 2021/2022 postgraduate programmes leading to the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Master Degrees of the University.

Available Programmes

The following Programmes are available for the 2021/2022 Academic Session:

Duration

(i) Applicants for the academic Master’s degree programmes who are graduates of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin or any other recognized Universities, must possess a minimum of Second Class Honours Degree (Upper Division). However, applicants with Second Class (Lower Division) may be admitted provided they score a minimum of 60% in a qualifying examination to be administered by the University.

• Regardless of the institution where the Bachelor’s degree is obtained, ALL CANDIDATES shall apply early for their official Bachelor’s degree academic transcripts to be addressed to The Dean, Postgraduate School, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

(ii) Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE): Applicants must possess a first degree from Al-Hikmah University Ilorin or any other recognized University. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) are also eligible. However all candidates must satisfy the University’s O’level requirements.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities on Thursday berated the administration of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for allegedly breaching the agreement it reached with the union nine months after it suspended its strike.

The Ibadan Zone of the Union said this in a press conference held at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso addressed by the Coordinator, Prof. Oyebamiji Oyegoke.

The chairpersons of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Ayo Akinwole; UNILORIN, Professor Moyosore Ajao; LAUTECH, Dr Biodun Olaniran and KWASU, Dr Shehu Salau were also present at the briefing.

The union asked Nigerians to hold Buhari responsible should the educational system be plunged into another round of crisis based on what it described as irresponsibility on the part of the Federal Government.

For the avoidance of doubt, ASUU stated that only salary shortfall and setting up of Visitation panels to Federal Government-owned universities had been addressed by government while renegotiation of conditions of service, injection of revitalisation funds, payment of earned academic allowances, implementation of University Transparency and Accountability Solution proliferation of state universities, release of withheld salaries and non-remittance of check-off dues of unions which were all contained in the December 22, 2020, Memorandum of Action have not been addressed.

On IPPIS versus UTAS, the Ibadan Zone of ASUU explained that Withholding salaries for months, non-release of EAA, non-payment of Check-off dues accruing to the union, despite what ASUU had demonstrated can only be an invitation to another possible cycle of industrial crisis.

ASUU said, “Moreover, UTAS avowed suitability has been demonstrated admirably to the Minister of Education and members of his team, the Honourable Senate President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, and other key stakeholders like Ministries of Labour and Employment; Education, Finance, Office of the Accountant-General, representatives of Nigeria Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The more the government insists on fulfilling the demands of integrity test on UTAS, the longer will be the accompanying pains earlier identified in IPPIS will stay our members.”

ASUU also slammed the blatant denials by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige over the failure of government to meet on August 2, 2021, concerning the implementation of all outstanding issues.

ASUU said, “At a reconciliation meeting between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the leadership of our Union on Monday, August 2, 2021, at the Conference room of the Minister of Labour and Employment, where all the contentious​ matters affecting the outstanding issues regarding the​implementation of the 2020 FGN/ASUU MoA were discussed, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, on behalf of the FGN promised that a broader government team and the inter-ministerial committee on the draft​renegotiated 2009 ASUU-FGN agreement would conclude its work and submit the report to government by the end of August 2021. The meeting concluded with an agreement to reconvene by the end of August 2021 to ascertain the faithfulness of the FGN in resolving the outstanding issues.

We are in the second week of September 2021, nothing positive from the FGN except blatant denials by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment.”

According to ASUU, rather than finding ways towards the resolution of the crises, the Federal Government has insisted on inflicting more hardship on ASUU members and by extension on all Nigerians.

The union said, “The persistent non-responsiveness of the FGN to the contentious and outstanding issues​ of the December​ 2020 FGN/ASUU MoA has created a ticking time bomb which may explode and engulf the Nigerian​ university system at a time sooner than imagined.

When this happens, Nigerians should hold the Federal Government of Nigeria responsible.”
