The Management of the University of Ilorin has announced new date for commencement of fresh students test and examinations.

CAMPUSINFO exclusively gathered that the new date for the commencement of fresh students, 100L/200L Direct Entry CA and Examination is 4th of October, 2021.

Students concerned are expected to take note of this changes. Thank you.

This is to inform the University Community and the general public that the 2020/2021 convocation exercise earlier scheduled to hold from September 20- 24. 2021 based on our academic calendar has been postponed.

While a new date would be communicated to the general public in due course, we duly regret any inconveniences this may cause our graduating students.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) Akure Zone is set to close down four universities in the zone for breach of agreement.

The leadership of the zone expressed preparedness to join another national strike if Government failed to pay members’ earned allowance, arrears of promotion and revitalize universities to a world class standard.

The affected universities are; Federal University of Technology, Akure, (FUTA); Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, (OAU); Ekiti state University, (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti and Federal University, Oye Ekiti, (FUOYE).

The Zonal ASUU Coordinator, Prof Olu Olufayo, said in Ado Ekiti that government has been passive on the white paper of the Visitation Panels to all Federal universities in the country.

He stated that “We hope that the Government is not trying to protect some sacred cows by not releasing the white paper on time because the system is rife with nepotistic fragrance.”

Prof Olufayo pointed out that it was unfortunate that no lecturer has been paid despite claim by the government to have captured the first tranche of earned Academic allowance payment in the supplementary budget and assented to by the President.

“There are two outstanding tranche of Earned Academic Allowance EAA. The government by agreement was to pay one tranche of the EAA to deserving lecturers by May 2021 and the second tranche to follow.

Similarly government informed us that mainstream of the EAA had been captured in the 2021 supplementary budget already given assent by the president but not yet implemented. All issues raised here are still outstanding.”

He condemned proliferation of Universities by the State Government without physical infrastructure coupled with abysmal payment of salaries.

Chairmen ASUU, FUTA branch, Prof Yinka Awopetu and his counterpart from OAU, Dr Adeola Egbedokun disclosed that there were promotions of three years which had not been affected due to infamous platform of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System IPPIS imposed on them by government.

“Many of our members are owed millions in arrears of salaries because of the deliberate attempt to punish us via the infamous platform of Integrated Payroll and person information system IPPIS.”

The threat by the Akure zonal ASUU is coming just as the national parent body issued threat of a possible resumption of its suspended strike due to government failure to implement its own side of agreement.

Aggrieved students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), on Wednesday, ignored the order of the university senate to close down the school, as they continued their two-day-old protest over the hike in their school fee.

Though the university, earlier on Wednesday announced the “immediate” closure of the institution, “temporarily”, claiming insecurity and the possible highjack of the protest, the students remained adamant.

Rather than complying with the directive that they should immediately vacate the campus, the students marched to the official lodged of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Lillian Imuetinyan Salami, and practically “kidnapped” her.

Having seized the professor of Food and Nutrition, the students forced her on a tortuous journey from her official residence to the university’s main gate on the Benin-Lagos road, on foot.

Sandwiched among the sea of heads, the protesting students made several video recordings of the Vice-Chancellor, trekking the long distance.

When the train got to the Engineering Faculty, the visibly exhausted VC pleaded that she should be allowed to complete the journey in a vehicle.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that while a Toyota Hilux was provided for the remaining trip, the students, however, deflated two of the four tyres of the vehicle.

Besides, Professor Salami was not accorded the luxury of riding in the demobilised vehicle alone, as some of the students jumped into a vehicle with her “to ensure that she did not escape,” the source volunteered.

As at 3.30 pm, commuters on that axis of the road had to detour to the inner roads by Precious Palm Royal Hotel to connect Uselu area.

Moments after she was forced to address protesting students at the university main gate, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Professor Lilian Imuetiyan Salami, on Wednesday evening reached a peace agreement with the protesting students.

Professor Salami, it was gathered, agreed to rescind the decision on the imposition of N20,000 late registration fee on the students.

The Vice-Chancellor equally cancelled the directive for the “immediate” closure of the school, earlier issued in the day‌‌

She was also said to have agreed that no student would be punished or victimised for taking part in the protest, especially her “abduction” from her official lodge to the university’s main gate, where she agreed to the terms of the protesting students.

Before she was finally let off by the restive students, Professor Salami, also agreed to set in motion, plans to relieve the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr Benedicta Ehanire and the Dean of Students Affairs, Professor Patrick Igbinaduwa, of their positions.

The students, it would be recalled, had on Tuesday, blocked the two campuses on Ekenwan Road andUgbowo in protest against the hike in the tuition fee by N20,000.

Trouble started when the university closed the students’ registration portal, three weeks after the resumption and surcharged those who could not register, while the portal was opened a late registration fee of N20,000

Prof (Mrs) Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has been named the ninth substantive Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University(LASU).

The Professor of Medicine had served as Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution before her elevation.

VC race: LASU governing council recommends 3 professors to Sanwo-Olu

The Governing Council of the Lagos State University (LASU) yesterday recommended three professors to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to pick one as the next Vice-Chancellor of the 38th years old institution.
Less than 24 hours after the interview, Campusinfo gathered that the Sir David Sunmoni-led governing council forwarded the names of the three professors to Governor Sanwo-Olu, who is the Visitor to LASU.

The three professors in order of merit are Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Professor of Physiology, Lagos State University College of Medicine and former deputy vice chancellor, Prof. Omotayo Awofolu, Nambia University of Science and Technology (former LASU staff in Chemistry Department) and Prof. Senapon Bakre, Professor of Food and Industrial Microbiology and former deputy vice chancellor in LASU.
Prof. Ibikunle Tijani, a Professor of History and current deputy vice chancellor, Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, placed fourth and was not among applicants recommended to the governor.

The new and 9th vice chancellor of LASU will resume office in first week of October for a single five years tenure.
The Joint Committee of Council and Senate for the Appointment of substantive VC on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 interviewed the four professors for the vacant job.

Only six professors applied for the vacant VC position, three are from LASU and three outsiders. The Joint Committee of Council and Senate for the Appointment of substantive VC shortlisted four for interview.
The two applicants that were not shortlisted joint council and Senate committee are Prof Akinyemi Kabiru, Professor of Microbiology,former Dean, Students Affairs and also former ASUU-LASU chairman and Prof. Yinka Belewu, a Professor of Animal Science, University of Ilorin. Both did not meet the ten years professorial requirement stated in the advert.
